The Blue Ice Bluebird Ice Axe is a lightweight (363g - 45cm) axe for mountaineering and ski touring. We stock the Bluebird in 3 sizes, 49cm, 54cm and 60cm to cover most user heights. The Bluebird is made from an aircraft grade anodized, sandblasted aluminium shaft that keeps the overall weight down and for durability it has a hot forged steel head and adze. This is a great axe for mountaineers and ski tourers venturing into slightly steeper and more technical terrain. The slight curve to the shaft and sliding pommel increase security on overhead placements.
The Bluebird comes with pick, spike and adze protectors to protect the rest of your kit from sharp points in transit. It has a dual textured lower grip to help with security on high, overhead axe placements. This is a Type 1 or B rated axe so is perfect for general mountaineering and glacier travel but is not suitable for more technical mixed rock and ice climbing.
