Full Description
The DMM Torque Nuts are probably the best hex's in the universe, no really they are very good in that they have multiple placing options with each one having a broad size range, the set covers a whopping 31mm through to 71mm. The colours correspond to other protection pieces in the DMM range, for example the size 1 matches in size to the Walnut 11 while the larger Torque Nuts match up with the DMM Dragon Cams. The other great advantage is that they are light, as a result of being made from light but very strong alloy coupled with 8mm Dynatec slings.
Essentially the Torque Nut can be placed in either a constriction, jammed into a crack or as a 'cam' where the curvature combined with the angled pull on the Dynatec causes the nut to cam into place. This really comes into it's own on parallel cracks. Once placed the climber has the option to extend the sling by un-clipping one loop and pulling the Dynatec through. This is great for deep cracks saving the need of using quickdraws to extend and also allows for neater and safer racking. Torque Nuts are very popular with winter climbers as they don't have moving parts that can freeze, however they're a great addition to any trad rack.
