The Rab Microlight Vest is a lightweight versatile down piece that can be worn as a light outer or as part of your layering system. Featuring a redesign for winter 2020, it now makes use of more recycled materials. The lining is recycled 20 denier nylon and the insulation is now recycled 700FP down with a Nikwax Hydrophobic water resistant treatment.

The outer is made of recycled 30 denier Pertex Quantum ripstop nylon fabric which is very lightweight, breathable and windproof with a DWR treatment for extra protection from damp conditions. The 700 fill power (US) recycled down is held closely in place with a combination of micro baffles over the main body of the vest, and smaller nano baffles zoned to areas requiring more articulation. Hydrophobic down is used to provide better performance in damp conditions. This down is NOT waterproof, but will retain its loft for longer if it gets damp, and will dry faster.

The fit is slim and forming - ideal for a close fitting midlayer. The drawcord adjustable hem will keep a close fit, preventing spindrift getting inside. All the zips on the jacket are YKK reverse coil making the jacket look sleek. There is plenty of storage with one zipped chest pocket and two zipped harness compatible hand pockets. The jacket also comes supplied with its own stuff sack for ease of packing and protective transportation.

Lightweight and very nice quality vest. Multi-purpose really, can be worn under a waterproof shell or on top of base and mid layers on a cold dry day. Well positioned hand and breast pockets plus you get a stuff sack for packing if needed. Very good.

Purchased for the boyfriend who is both the coldest person on the planet (think five layers when everyone else is in two!) and tall and slim. I have been assured that it is very warm despite is lightweight, its currently mostly being used to extend the usability of various lightweight jackets (being thinner you don't end up looking like the michelin man), but I suspect will get worn a lot with tees and long sleeves as well all year round. All its fixtures and fittings are really nicely finished, all the quality touches you would expect. Fit wise its ideal if you are taller. He's 6ft 2, but a medium, and it is long enough. I generally find Rab kit overall comes up long, including in the ladies stuff, which is great. I bought the dark grey because it would go with everything, because whilst obviously I appreciate that its designed for climbing mountains, whilst this will be used for a lot of walking and sailing, its also going to get used for general day to day (such are the problems of the cold person!) and probably for work events in cavernous cold exhibition halls. Overall he (and I) are really impressed and whilst I did have some points to spend I would say its very good value for money at full price.
