The Petzl Scorpio Vertigo is perfect for long days of Via Ferrata style climbing where you need easy to use elasticated lanyards that will not get tangled as you move. A third short central arm is really useful for tyrolean traverses or areas where you're close to the cable and want a shorter arm to connect you to it.

Scorpios use Tear Apart energy absorbing webbing tape, this will take all of the shock from a fall. The tape is kept free from abrasion in it own zipped pouch. The zipped pouch allow for easy inspection each time you go out.

Vertigo Wirelock carabiners are tough auto lock carabiners, simple to use that will ensure your safety as you move along the wire.

This latest version of the Scorpio Vertigo conforms to the latest EN958 standard and is suitable for users with weights between 40 and 120kg.

Pros - light, crabs easy and secur action, ability to fix 3rd crab for rest a bonus on routes with extended overhangs or for those new to via ferrata.

Cons - attachment loop a little on the shortside for attachment to Alpine Bod or similar harnesses which do not themselves incorporate a belay loop.

Really pleased with this set. It's my first admittedly (after we found out my wife really enjoys via Ferrata), so I'm not really sure how it compares to others, but it's well made as is all Petzl gear, and seems to have several handy features. The karabiners are very easy to use one handed and have a nice weight to them for clipping. Really like the central resting point where I've attached a BD VF karabiner - most other sets don't (currently) have one of these attachement points, which I find a little odd given how useful it seems to be. Having said that, I guess part of the thinking of other brands might be that since you can't put much weight on it anyway, without breaking the tape open, it's better to just use a short 30/60 sling from the belay loop for hands-free resting?

The set also comes in a nice mesh bag, which is actually quite useful for separating it (and prevent it from getting tangled up in) the rest of my climbing gear. Simple things...

I have used via ferrata kits for several years now and the Petzl Scorpio Vertigo is the newest version complying with the strict safety guidance. It is easy to use, the karabiners are quick to clip on and the elasticated lanyards make for a good reach to the wires. They do still get tangled but it is not a big problem really. The safety tape is neatly stowed as with many designs now. The extra short arm is very useful for a quick rest and I felt very secure when I used it. I have used the kit for 1 season and look forward to getting it out again for the next season.

As expected reliable equipment and well designed from Petzl. Don't need spinners, krabs work very well just enough effort to open and lock worked always. Gate wide enough for all attatchments. 3rd anchor point useful buy a twist lock to put in it. Only 75 euros in France but buying from Facewest can use straight off the plane!
