Full Description
The Mammut Eiger Nordwand Pro HS Hooded Jacket is designed for serious alpinists and mountaineers who demand the highest levels of protection and performance in extreme environments. Built from durable 3-layer GORE-TEX Pro fabric with a PFC-free ePE membrane, this hardshell jacket is completely waterproof, windproof, and highly breathable while offering excellent abrasion resistance against rock, ice, and gear. The 100% recycled nylon face fabric paired with a solution-dyed backer reduces environmental impact by cutting water usage in production, making it a more sustainable choice without compromising toughness. With its regular fit and climbing-specific patterning, the jacket provides superb freedom of movement for technical ascents. Rigorously tested by Mammut athletes, it represents the pinnacle of their Eiger Nordwand collection, marking 30 years of innovation in 2025.
GORE-TEX ePE is a totally PFC free waterproof membrane designed by Gore to be more sustainable and cut out harmful long chain 'forever chemicals' found in normal PTFE waterproof membranes. The ePE membrane is a thinner than standard GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX PRO, which results in a softer and more supple feel. It doesn't have the same stiff 'cardboardy' feel as older Gore membranes. The biggest perfromance difference you are most likely to notice is the DWR treatment. Unfortunately flurocarbons are some of the best, most hydrophobic chemicals out there. Getting rid of them does hit performance so you will notice that the nice 'beading' effect disappears quite quickly. Don't worry your GORE-TEX ePE jacket is still waterproof, but to maintain the beading effect you will need to top up the DWR more regularly.
The Eiger Nordwand Pro HS Jacket comes loaded with technical features to ensure comfort, safety, and adaptability on demanding climbs. The helmet-compatible, 3-way adjustable hood with reinforced peak provides reliable protection, while a zip-off snow skirt with anti-slip grip shields against spindrift. A suite of harness-compatible pockets, mesh dump pockets, and chest storage ensures quick access to essentials, with AquaGuard zippers keeping contents dry. For ventilation during high exertion, 2-way underarm zips deliver airflow, while shaped cuffs and dual hem adjustments improve weather sealing, even when wearing gloves. Durability is enhanced with strategic top-stitching and repair-friendly design, including a replaceable zipper system and on-the-go repair patch kit. Added safety comes from the integrated RECCO reflector. While the jacket excels in performance and sustainability, its premium weight and price may be a drawback for casual users, but for alpine professionals it remains a rugged, reliable, and uncompromising choice for harsh conditions.
