The Arcteryx Beta AR Jacket is a superbly versatile jacket for use in harsh mountain conditions. Ideal for the climber or backcountry skier requiring a minimal jacket in the most durable and breathable fabric. It has a longer back with a hip length cut for ease of use with a harness. The fit is with a regular cut with e3D, ergonomic three-Dimensional patterning, designed to enhance a greater freedom of movement.
The main body uses a lighter 40 denier Most Rugged 3L GORE-TEX Pro 2.0 fabric, in order to reduce the overall weight and make the jacket more packable. The shoulders and hood top have a heavier reinforcing 80 denierMost Rugged 3L GORE-TEX Pro 2.0 fabric, ensuring durabilty in high wear areas. Most Rugged 3L GORE-TEX Pro 2.0 is the toughest and most durable waterproof fabric in the Gore-Tex range. It has been constructed with an extra polyurethane element in the membrane, extending its lifespan and making it more abrasion resistant. The Beta AR is designed specifically for intense activity that may include frequent stops providing the high levels of breathability required by the climber, mountaineer or ski tourer. Watertight pit zips enable fast ventilation when you're working extra hard.
The two zipped hand pockets are generously sized for stuffing gloves, maps or guidebooks into while inside the internal zipped pocket will keep valuables safe. The helmet compatible DropHood features concealed front Cohaesive cord lock adjusters, that can be done with one hand, allowing for a good seal and will rotate with your head so your vision is never impaired.

Customer Reviews of Arcteryx Beta AR Jacket
A big investment, sure. But coming from someone who has had several ‘waterproof' garments before, one 5 mile hike in the pouring rain has easily convinced me this is by far the best of them. This will be my go-to outer shell when I hit the wild camping trail post lockdown.
So far so good. Dry as a bone after an 8 mile walk up Ennerdale valley, with full on Cumbrian weather.
Brilliant jacket for those that don't like wearing heavy ski coats - if it's cold just add a base/mid layer as the coat keeps the wind/snow/rain out. Only (small) criticism is that I'd prefer a detachable hood. Nevertheless highly recommended.
I've not had a chance to fully test out this jacket yet, but as soon as I picked it up I could immediately tell it was vastly superior in quality to my old Berghaus jacket. It fits fine with enough room for an insulated jacket underneath and there is no restriction in movement although a little noisy.I can see this jacket lasting many winters and probably outlasting myself.
I thought long and hard before spending out on an Arcteryx, they are not cheap after all. First impressions of the Beta AR are definitely +'ve, the jacket is extremely well put together (made in China as is everything else......shame!) and fits well although as has been mentioned on other reviews the hood is on the large side as it allows for wearing a helmet. The pit zips are a great feature allowing good ventilation when the weather has been wet/warm as has been the case so far. I'm 5' 9 and 42 chest and large fits perfectly. Personally I definitely wouldn't want a medium as has been recommended for my size on other reviews......best to speak to staff at Facewest if in doubt.
Early days yet but very pleased.
I have a Beta Lt jacket which I have worn all summer. When I was looking for a winter waterproof shell which was always going to be Arcteryx, it was a choice between the Beta AR and the Theta AR. The new Beta AR in the new Admiral colour was my final choice. The fit is excellent, shorter than the Theta but still gives good cover. I am comfortable with a base layer and a light fleece during high activity, but can fit a light down jacket underneath when the weather gets colder. The inside pocket could be larger as an iphone just fits inside. The Beta AR meets all my requirements and is now one of my favourite jackets
Gore outer jacket put through its paces in some heavy weather.
Pros: Good helmet-friendly hood, good zippers, easy to secure velcro tabs on the wrists, quality gore jacket.
Cons: Sizing is a little conservative and you may want to think about sizing up to accommodate a puffy jacket as an under-layer if you are inclined to do so often.
Arcteryx simply is one of the best quality makers for outdoor equipment. When looking for a jacket you can get caught up in all of the many different versions. Generally the Gore-Tex material differs slightly and it is more down to that size and shape of the jacket.
This jacket is perfect for all round general use. It has a low cut for harness but if you're not a climber I wouldn't be too concerned as it doesn't ride high. I bought size medium and there's just the right space for my atom lt and doesn't feel too tight. It's light and compactable. Arcteryx can be pricy but I got this for £300 and it is definitely worth the investment.
