Mountain Equipment Citadel Jacket Review
Reviewer: Periklis Kachramanoglou, Voula (26-3-2012)
I bought the Citadel jacket on sale a few days ago and looks and feels great. It is a very warm jacket with lots of pockets. Since I own a Fitzroy jacket also, there is little comparison between the two. The Citadel is at least twice as warm as the Fitzroy. My only concern was that the Citadel is a little shorter at the front than the Fitzroy but that's fine thanks to the hem drawcords no cold air comes underneath. Costumer service as always is perfect from Facewest and I would highly recommend to anyone to buy on-line from them.

I am a professional French mountain leader and I was looking for an item that keeps me warm either in the Alps than in Himalayas. this jacket has met my requirements. I do appreciate the warmth it provides even in humid conditions, its look and the water repellency. Still light and packable, I just love this jacket especially right now (Jan 2012) when it is -20°C in the winter resort I live in.

This is an awesome jacket when you need ultimate protection from the cold. I tend to feel the cold unless I am exerting myself and having this jacket to wear before a race really aids comfort. It is a flexible, multi-activity piece of kit. I won't be leaving home without mine for a few months yet.

I've hardly had this jacket off since I bought it. I wanted a hardcore winter belay jacket as a final defence in case things took a turn for the worst, but I've ended up using it as an everyday jacket too. With 2 x the standard insulation the jacket is super toasty, but I never feel like I'm overheating in it.
The jacket isn't the lightest, or smallest, but its probably the warmest synthetic jacket out there, and being synthetic it will retain most of its insulation when wet - ideal for Scottish conditions. The jacket is really well made and comfortable. My girlfriend kept nicking it - until she bought her own!

Mountain Equipment Citadel Jacket Review

Jacket is clearly well thought-out with a number of clever details such as fleece lined pockets, very good cap and sealed cuffs with thumb loops. It feels very warm but still light, compresses almost as well as a down jacket. It has quite long arms, but I could have wished for just a little bit longer in the backside. Pockets are big enough to be actually useful and there’s plenty of them.
Haven’t yet had a chance to test in a proper Finnish winter weather (unfortunately only just a couple of degrees minus) but don’t have any doubts that it’s capable of serving me well in -20 Celsius since that’s what it’s designed for. Overall I’m very pleased with it, especially at this reasonable price.

Mountain Equipment Citadel Jacket Review

This is a very warm synthetic jacket and could even be as warm if not warmer than many down jackets without the worries of it becoming wet in Scottish winter and is easy to care for compared with a down, it can easily be put in a washing machine when dirty. One feature that was unexpected was the internal cuffs with thumb loops that prevent wind/cold getting up the arms.
The jacket was slightly bulkier than I was expecting, a lot more like a down than any synthetic jacket that I had worn before.
The pockets are large and easily swallow up any items that I have put into them, the two hand pockets are particularly nice on those cold mornings.
