Very well engineered and put together. Certainly worth buying at facewests prices, probabally wouldn't at RRP just being used about the house (and not professionally). Very happy with this companys turn around and professionalism.

Just unpacked my most excellent Leatherman Surge and was more than impressed, the free engraving looked great and really makes it unique. This tool was purchased for all my camping trips where its size and weight will be used to my full advantage. The scissors were an important item and they are of a good size and work well, as does the saw. Having the ability to replace the blades for the wire cutters is a reassuring feature, which encourages you to use them more. Overall fit and finish are second to none, combined with the first class service from Facewest will leave me no option but to highly recommend the Surge. Never Stop Exploring.

Awesome professional tool. A friend swears by it, and he used it in a UN camp after the Haiti earthquake. I bought it because it's big and sturdy, and has huge pliers. It has a good set of tools and fits nicely in the hand. I also go on foreign missions where it comes in handy - you never know what kind of gear that is available, or what you will need to fix. Back in Sweden, it gathers dust in the toolbox. It's simply too heavy to carry all day or during hikes. At home, I use full size tools. On hikes, I prefer a Mora knife, an axe or saw, and a smaller multitool (for example the Leatherman Wave or something smaller). But if you don't mind the weight and prefer only one knife/tool, this could be it. Get the bit extender, the bit kit and the lanyard as well, and you never need to buy a multi-tool again. But make sure you don't lose the Surge (lanyard! ! ) or break your only blade in the field :-)And get the standard pouch. The premium pouch has no room for bit kits and sits horisontally as opposite to the standard pouch. I prefer a vertical orientation although the standard velcro pouch is much more noisy when you open it. And I do want my bit kits in the pouch.

We run a small building business with a team of up to eight guys at any one time. I have personally had a Leatherman on my belt for years and used it continuously. So I bought a Surge for the foreman and asked him after two weeks if he found it useful. Oh yes - every ten minutes! . So now every member of the team has one: new members get one after passing their probationary period. ( Facewest's free name engraving stops them getting mixed up. ) The guys are never without their Leathermen on their belts, and the payback for me buying them all is the huge amount of time saved with the guys not having to stop and go and find an appropriate tool when something unexpected comes up. The Surge is a fantastic tool for tradesmen, with its configuration seeming to provide a solution for just about everything. Something like 10 Surges in total which have been hammered on building sites for nearly three years with no reported damage and no complaints from users. Just great.

The Surge is an excellent tool. Of use daily, I would not be without it now. The high density of useful tools combined with the replaceability of wearing parts is unsurpassed.

It took me a while to get to the Surge. My Swiss Army Knife was falling apart after years. Looking at the Leatherman range, I was put off by the comments about Surge weight so went for a Rebar - which is a great multi-tool but didn't have everything I need(scissors, cork-screw). Finally, got the Surge and have no regrets. The weight is fine - it has a locking knife blade so I won't be taking it out of the house much. It feels a tool with substance - sharp blade, good scissors, large bit-driver (for all LT27 bits). Haven't tried the saw yet but am confident it's strong. A good complement to the Rebar (and the Juice XE6, which I take out and about or use at home if I can't find a cork-screw in the kitchen. . . )

Leatherman is a very good tool, proven, reliable, trustworthy and with a very good customer service. There is only one small detail about the SURGE: the springs that hold the bits in place, should be glued with rubber or whatever glue. They tend to get out. I've been using Leatherman tools for the past 25 years and always perfect.

This multi tool ticks all the boxes. For years as a police officer in Los Angeles I allways carried Gerber Multi Tools. This is my first Leatherman model and I am very impressed. The one handed opening feature is great. It is a larger tool, which I dont see as a problem. When its in your hand, it just feels right and you know it can take abuse. I would also recomend getting the preimum sheath. The Surge fits perfect and it can be attatched with a horizontal or vertical opening.
