Exactly as expected. Kept me warm at -10C, kept me dry while light-snowing and packs up to super small in it's own bag. Hood is efficient, adapts very well, easy and fast.

A negative could be the quality of the zip, it doesn't fasten that easily which could be a problem when conditions are bad.

This is the fifth Lightline Jacket that I have bought over a period of 25 years...in fact I've only ever owned one other down jacket they're that good! It's warm enough to cope with being out on the Scottish Mountains in winter or to sit comfortably outside next to your camp stove on an Autumn evening...but not too warm. If you're off dog-sledding in the Arctic then get something warmer. The Lightline is ideal for the UK. It packs down to slightly larger than a pint pot and so is a great emergency bit of kit in the rucksack. The waterproofing keeps the odd shower out but if it starts raining steadily you'll need a proper rain coat on top.

My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that Mountain Equipment need to put better zips on these jackets...it's what has always broken first, though never so soon that I've felt like sending one back!

I bought this jacket for après-ski wear and general cold weather wear. I’ve had it for a few years now and have found its good and bad points: It’s very warm, windproof and fairly water resistant, it’s a very nice fit and the inner material feels very nice against the skin. The outer material feels a bit flimsy but I’ve caught it on sharp things before and never actually done any damage.

Bad points are the zip is becoming more and more difficult to put together, the Velcro on the cuffs has de-laminated itself from the 'M' rubber logo but a bit of general purpose glue fixed that and lastly the stuff sack is far too small, you really have to force the jacket into it which will crush the feather stalks and cause them to release oils which reduces the lofting ability of the down. Overall a good down jacket but if you want to use a stuff sack then buy a larger one.

This jacket is a great value for money in my opinion. The main features that I appreciate are the hood, which is well fitting and easily adjusted to fit your head. The Velcro cuffs are another simple, but great feature allowing you to keep it snug and keep in the warmth. The 2 way zip is perfect for throwing it on at the belay and then still being able to access your belay device and belay effectively. The windproof outer is great and does exactly what it says on the tin.

My only niggle is the stuff sac provided, which is quite small and packs the jacket up to a size where the down is being compressed quite severely, which is not good for it. The quality is exceptional, and I have not yet had any down migration. Excellent buy!

My jacket sheds its feathers through the seams sometimes. The outer shell of the jacket infuriatingly snags in the pocket zips and the main zip is difficult to do up. Sorry to go against the other reviews, but I found this to be very disappointing for a Mountain Equipment product. Certainly it is very warm, mostly windproof, light and small in packed size.

In terms of value and performance, nothing else comes close to a Mountain Equipment Lightline jacket. I bought the smock version (10 years ago), when my dad (in his 70's) 'borrowed' my original one. It lives in my rucksack or the boot of the car. Packs away to nothing, looks smart and keeps you warm. Even when I replaced it with a newer version, I still use the old one. It has never let me down. I have tried other well known, more expensive brands and was not impressed. For Scottish winter (even in summer) the Lightline is a hard act to beat.

I used this 'jacket' when I went to Tanzania this summer (2010). I climbed Mount Meru and reached the point of 4260m (300m short of the summit) and the coat performed brilliantly. We were up and going for the summit day at 1am and was sub zero temperatures.

I have no faults with it as it kept me warm through the whole time I was walking, there weren't any technical problems with it and performed fantastically. I would highly recommend this product.
