Rab Solar Ultra 1

The Rab Solar Ultra sleeping bags are the cutting edge of synthetically insulated sleeping bags. They use high performance recycled fabrics and an innovative heat reflective scrim layer to reflect your own body heat back. The Solar Ultra bags offer some of the best warmth to weight, and compact pack sizes of any synthetic sleeping bag.

The super lightweight 20 Denier Atmos Recycled Ripstop Nylon outer is DWR treated for water resistance. The top side of the bag uses triple layer Stratus Synthetic Sheet insulation made from recycled Polyester. To save weight and improve pack size the underside of the bag is insulated with a dual layer of the same insulation. This insulation would be compressed by your body weight and underside heat loss is best managed with a warm sleeping mat. The Solar Ultra bags also feature a TILT Scrim layer in the top side. This technology is a heat reflective fabric treatment which reduces radiant heat loss by up to 15%.

The bag has a Mummy Taper shape, more tapered in the upper body/leg areas so it minimises weight and enhances thermal performance. Inside the bag there is an anti snag zip guard to prevent the zipper catching on the lining when you are zipping it up in a hurry inside a dark tent.

The Solar Ultra 1 is the lightest of the Solar Ultra bags with an EN Comfort limit of 1 °C. Rab quote a Rab Sleep limit of -4 °C due to the fact that the Standard EN test cannot take into account the heat reflective properties of the TILT Scrim Layer. This is an impressive limit for a 880g synthetic bag, making it suitable for cold and damp bike packing, back packing and bivi trips, as well as summer alpinism.
