The Petzl Pick and Spike protection fits onto the pick and spike of your axe to stop them damaging other items in your bag. They also stop the axe from blunting or taking chunks out of walls. Both the pick and spike protector have a loop which will secure them to the axe so they won't be knocked off in transport. Ventilation holes allow residual ice or snow to melt and water to drain.
