Description

The Mountain Equipment Kedar Jacket is a rugged, fully featured GORE-TEX shell built for all-mountain and ski mountaineering use. Constructed from 3-layer GORE-TEX 70D fabric with a DWR finish, it delivers genuinely waterproof, windproof and breathable protection for long days in tough winter conditions. The Mountain fit gives more room through the body and sleeves for layering beneath, making the Kedar an ideal shell for ski touring, all-mountain objectives and general winter mountaineering where reliable, durable protection is essential. A Mountain HC Hood with a wired visor is fully adjustable and low-volume ski helmet compatible, giving maximum protection when conditions deteriorate on exposed ridgelines or summits.

GORE-TEX is now a totally PFC free waterproof membrane designed by Gore to be more sustainable and cut out harmful long chain 'forever chemicals' found in normal PTFE waterproof membranes. The ePE membrane is a thinner than older GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX PRO, which results in a softer and more supple feel. It doesn't have the same stiff 'cardboardy' feel as older Gore membranes. The biggest performance difference you are most likely to notice is the DWR treatment. Unfortunately flurocarbons are some of the best, most hydrophobic chemicals out there. Getting rid of them does hit performance so you will notice that the nice 'beading' effect disappears quite quickly. Don't worry your GORE-TEX jacket is still waterproof, but to maintain the beading effect you will need to top up the DWR more regularly.

Four pockets with YKK AquaGuard zips give large-volume, harness-accessible storage, while a dedicated sleeve pocket with a YKK AquaGuard zip provides secure, low-profile storage for a ski pass on the mountain. A 2-way YKK AquaGuard Vislon centre front zip and long 2-way YKK AquaGuard pit zips allow effective venting on the move, essential during high-output skinning uphill. Adjustable laminated cuffs give a durable, secure fit over gloves, and dual-tether hem drawcords ensure a snag-free adjustment. At 590g, the Kedar Jacket is a genuinely capable shell for demanding ski touring days in variable mountain weather. This makes the Kedar a genuinely dependable shell for repeated use across a demanding ski touring season.
