The Mammut Eiger Nordwand Light HS Hooded Jacket is a superlight GORE-TEX waterproof, designed specifically for mountaineers who prioritize speed and weight savings without compromising on expedition-grade protection. As the lightest hardshell in the prestigious Eiger Nordwand collection, it utilizes a high-performance 3-layer GORE-TEX fabric with an innovative ePE membrane. This provides a staggering 28,000mm water column for total waterproof security and a RET<13 breathability rating to manage moisture during high-intensity alpine tours. Inside, a 100% recycled nylon C-KNIT® backer offers a soft, next-to-skin feel that eliminates the "crinkly" sensation of traditional shells. Whether you are moving fast through technical terrain or tackling summer alpine faces, this ultra-lightweight jacket offers the abrasion resistance and weatherproofing required for rigorous mountain environments.
GORE-TEX is now a totally PFC free waterproof membrane designed by Gore to be more sustainable and cut out harmful long chain 'forever chemicals' found in normal PTFE waterproof membranes. The ePE membrane is a thinner than older GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX PRO, which results in a softer and more supple feel. It doesn't have the same stiff 'cardboardy' feel as older Gore membranes. The biggest performance difference you are most likely to notice is the DWR treatment. Unfortunately flurocarbons are some of the best, most hydrophobic chemicals out there. Getting rid of them does hit performance so you will notice that the nice 'beading' effect disappears quite quickly. Don't worry your GORE-TEX jacket is still waterproof, but to maintain the beading effect you will need to top up the DWR more regularly.
Functionality is at the forefront of this athletic-fit shell, weighing in at a mere 234g. The climbing-specific pattern ensures an articulated fit, providing unrestricted freedom of movement when reaching for high holds. A helmet-compatible, 1-way adjustable hood features a reinforced peak for visibility in driving rain, while the YKK® VISLON® AquaGuard® 2-way center zipper allows for easy harness access. Practicality extends to a water-repellent chest pocket and a dedicated stow bag with a carabiner loop for easy racking. Safety is enhanced by an integrated RECCO® reflector, and Mammut’s commitment to longevity is evident in the repairable design—complete with an included patch kit. This is a refined, technical layer built to endure the sharp edges of the mountain while occupying minimal space in your pack.
