The Rab Superlite Shelter Silbothy 4 is an ultra lightweight water and windproof four person shelter for emergency use or for keeping the weather off you during brief stops.

Constructed from a Ripstop siliconised nylon fabric that is is totally weatherproof but incredibly light. This superlite version brings the weight right down for ease of carrying, making you much more likely to take it along for emergency use. These shelters are essential for group leaders as they can literally be a lifesaver if a group member is injured or exhausted. They also provide a sheltered environment to eat your lunch in when the rain is lashing and the wind is howling.

To use you simply raise the whole thing up above your heads before ducking under it and sitting down on the waterproof seats. This holds it down. The air vents assist in preventing too much of a build up of condensation.

Great emergency and none emergency shelter. It is super small and light therefore you don't think twice about taking it with you into the hills. It is of course not as roomy as heavier 4 person shelters but you can fit four people in with no problem and keep nice and warm. Its compact size does have the advantage of meaning it has minimal flapping even when used by 3 people. A must have in the hills at any time of year.

I first used an emergency bothy on a ski touring trip in the Alps when in the middle of the Plan des Morts (which sounded ominous) and the weather turned wild and cramming six of us into a (big) bothy enabled us to take a short rest and snack, look at maps and make plans - psychologically very useful. I carry this in Scotland and the Alps for both wilder and less wild trips - nice for a picnic in the dry. Even has a window (would be nice if it was bigger) and is light enough to throw in rucksack without agonising.
