Exped Dura 5R Synmat

The Exped Dura 5R Mat is a warm and packable synthetic insulated sleeping mat designed for fast and light camping in colder conditions. With an R-Value of 4.8 the Dura 5R mat is designed to keep you insulated from the ground in temperatures as low as -20°C. The 75 denier top / 170 denier bottom recycled Polyester construction is durable enough for expedition use, however it is still an air mat so look out for thorns before placing your mat on the ground.

At 7cm thick the Dura 5R is a very comfortable mat, which is further enhanced by the thicker edge baffles that create a cradle and prevent you rolling off the mat. The mat is easy to inflate thanks to the flat valve system and included pump sack. No more light headedness from manually blowing up your mat after a tiring day.

The Synthetic insulation is bonded to the upper and lower surfaces of the Synmat so that as it inflates the insulation opens out creating a 'lofting' effect. Tests have shown that Synmats are nearly twice as warm as a self inflating mat of the same weight. The Synmats also pack up smaller than other mats as you only have to compress the insulation and not the foam.

Tests have demonstrated that regular sleeping mats lose 3 times more heat to cold ground than to the air; therefore thicker mats such as the Exped Dura 5R will keep you warmer than having a more insulated sleeping bag. If you are cold think Sleeping Mat not bag!
