The Blue Ice Harfang Crampons are ultralight (377g per pair) and hyper compact, designed for ski touring and classic mountaineering. With chromoly steel front rail, aluminum secondary and rear rails they offer an excellent balance between performance, weight and compactness. A central textile strap that connects the front and back rails and allow it to mount it in the most suitable position based on the application or the geometry of the boots. One size fits all. Using a flexible strap linking system minimizes bulk and offers a real compactness, while offering remarkable precision and comfort.

The heel pivot is equipped with a micro adjustment dial to fine tune the crampon on the shoe. It is an automatic crampon, which adapts to all ski touring boots featuring a toe welt, as well as mountaineering shoes with rigid sole and toe welt. They are delivered in their bag which can be attached to your belt or snap into the backpack. You have your crampons close at hand without the clutter, as they are very compact.

Purchased for infrequent use on hut to hut and day alpine ski tours and to replace a set of full fat steel boot crampons that are too greedy for space in my 40L avalanche pack. These seemed like an easy win to instantly free up some significant space and reduce weight. There are a whole range of different models with different components but the Harfang with steel front and alu mid and rear seemed like a good compromise. These are for next season so not used yet on a ski tour but they do feel pretty rigid when correctly tensioned on the ski boot. It's worth reading the fitting instructions, as contrary to even some of the manufacturers photos, the rear spikes should be inset a bit from the rear of the sole. Very happy that they take half the space of my steel crampons and they happen to fit neatly inside my ski crampons - the other awkward thing to pack.
