The Arcteryx Women's Beta AR Jacket is a superbly versatile GORE-TEX with ePE waterproof membrane jacket for use in harsh mountain conditions. Ideal for the climber or backcountry skier requiring a minimal jacket in the most durable and breathable fabric. It has a longer back with a hip length cut for ease of use with a harness. The fit is with a regular cut with ergonomic three-Dimensional patterning, designed to enhance a greater freedom of movement.
GORE-TEX is now a totally PFC free waterproof membrane designed by Gore to be more sustainable and cut out harmful long chain 'forever chemicals' found in normal PTFE waterproof membranes. The ePE membrane is a thinner than older GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX PRO, which results in a softer and more supple feel. It doesn't have the same stiff 'cardboardy' feel as older Gore membranes. The biggest performance difference you are most likely to notice is the DWR treatment. Unfortunately flurocarbons are some of the best, most hydrophobic chemicals out there. Getting rid of them does hit performance so you will notice that the nice 'beading' effect disappears quite quickly. Don't worry your GORE-TEX jacket is still waterproof, but to maintain the beading effect you will need to top up the DWR more regularly.
The two zipped hand pockets are generously sized for stuffing gloves, maps or guidebooks into while inside the internal zipped pocket will keep valuables safe. The helmet compatible DropHood features concealed front Cohaesive cord lock adjusters, that can be done with one hand, allowing for a good seal and will rotate with your head so your vision is never impaired.
