Guide Glove, warm at last
Reviewer: Mark Beecroft, Darlington (3-2-2012)
Bought these gloves for my girlfriend for those cold winter days on the Lake Districts peaks, having tried various other gloves over the years which have failed to keep her warm. Initially very impressed by the quality and fit of these gloves, and decided to try them on Helvellyn yesterday. The wrist loops are a great addition on a windy day, allowing the user to quickly take them on and off without risk of losing them, and the gloves are flexible enough to allow good dexterity.
I see that others have said these are not the warmest, however this is the only time I can ever remember my other half taking her gloves off to cool down!! I'm now trying to find a pair of these for myself as they are unfortunately sold out. The service from Face West was first class with very quick and well packaged delivery and although this was the first time I've purchased from them I will definitely use them again.

Mountain Equipment Guide Glove (Winter 10/11) Review

Really pleased with these gloves, bought them for skiing and ski touring and used them about twenty days so far.
A quality, well-fitting glove with nice fleece-pile inner and leather palm makes for a grippy and dexterous feel. Slips on and off really easily. Breathability is good and water-repellency also - don't get soggy during spring skiing like some of my other gloves. Skied in some light rain and seemed fine in that.
Not super warm - most would need a warmer pair for winter skiing. For me they are good down to about -5 C. Durability seems good and they still look brand new.
Have not tried them climbing but reckon they would be pretty good bet due to good dexterity. Like the wrist loops and gauntlets not ridiculously big like some other winter gloves. Good price for the quality too!

Bicycling is hard for gloves. Fingers stick out in front in the cold and are expected to operate gears and brakes. Temperature today 1 degree C cold easterly wind. With these gloves fingers were cold but not freezing after 3 miles. Increasing body heat with a longer run would warm them up. Some might not like the gloves bulk/ stiffness but you need insulation to keep warm. A thin silk under-glove in colder weather might assist. Definitely a good buy. Not tried the nose wipe yet!

Well-made and robust, these gloves should last a while. For me, their essential features are a leather palm to protect against abrasion from the rocks, a nose-wipe and elastic wrist loops so you don't lose a glove. The gloves are weatherproof, comfy and warm, though I'd also wear a silk glove liner if venturing out in a Scottish winter storm.
