Customer Reviews of Suunto Strap Xlander Military
I was looking for a strap replacement for my Suunto Yachtsman. In fact the case on the Yachtsman is the same as the Xlander and so the strap fits perfectly. Removing the old strap was interesting as there's effectively no clearance to remove the pins. In the end I found the only solution was to cut of the strap! Refitting was slightly tricky but I succeeded and the new strap is excellent.
Having had an x lander for many years i was keen to try out an alternative to the leather and plastic standard straps. It fits with no issues, although be careful to check it is seated flush. This strap looks better and is more comfortable than the other types for this watch due to its width. It also snags less on pockets etc. Only minor issue is that it is harder to take the watch off due to the strength of the fit, but that may loosen up in time.
Fantastic strap to change from leather to a more robust rubber one fits my silver xlander perfect as an upgrade as unable to purchase the xlander all black military model anymore! Suunto need to review their choice to discontinue this model as in my opinion it's the best one in the range !!! Great service again from faceWest as has become the norm!
I have to disagree with the other reviewers on this one. I bought my X-lander military on a French military base in 2010. The rubber strap snapped after 2 years of daily use. The replacement strap lasted 2 years as well. Both times they failed without any prior warning. I would hate to lose the watch while in the field. I then decided to abandon the cool looking and very comfortable rubber strap and try the leather strap. It fits well and the all black X-Lander military looks great with a black leather strap. Most of the other military/law enforcement guys had the rubber strap, and it was nice to have something slightly different. I'm very happy with it so far. I haven't used it for two years yet, though... I don't dive or swim with the watch. I just use it for work and hiking etc. The watch held up well in both Eastern Europe and the Horn of Africa, but failed in January 2015. Suunto provided a replacement unit at 50% discount, which I was very happy with.
I am an owner of a Suunto Xlander for many years now and I have tried all three available straps. The leather and synthetic straps can bearly last for a year or so and they tend to smell bad due to the sweat they accumulate. This plastic strap is the best one hands down! The design is really great and it is very durable. Stronly recommended!
This is the first time I've tried the Military strap. Leather is more comfortable and visually pleasing, but I'm very happy with this Military strap. It is comfortable to wear, there is less bending of the strap when it is removed from my wrist. So far I think it will stand the hammer and last longer than the leather version.
Very quick dispatch and delivery by Face west. A quality Suunto replacement strap. Easy fit if you don't follow YouTube.
I have used both the other types of strap on my Xlander. The leather strap is smart, but pretty useless in salt water! The synthetic strap has been fine for snorkelling and the like, but after a year or so it starts to fray. First impressions on this strap are that it is really tough; perhaps a bit chunky, but then the watch is big anyway. Not quite as easy to attach as the others, but still only a few minutes fiddling to get the spring clips seated.I like the neat way that it fills the cut-outs in the watch with a very smooth line.Looking forward to trying it out properly on my next holiday!
A weakness of every Suunto watch is their straps!! This strap is very comfortable and has a special groove that the end of strap fits into. Reasonably priced. So far so good!
Perfect look, comfortable and durable surface, great grip on sweaty hands. The buckle is made of massive metal.
Excellent new alternative strap for my Suunto Yachtsman. Previous experience with leather straps not totally satisfactory as they cracked after about 18 months of normal wear. This model was easily fitted and appears comfortable and robust, particularly liked the security of the fastener. 4 stars as durability yet to be tested.
I have now owned all three of the Suunto Xlander strap versions and this the rubber military version seems to be beyond doubt the very best by a long mile. I particularly like the way it integrates itself flush with the Xlander aluminium watch casing smartening the whole look of the watch. It is supple light weight and perfect for getting wet and cleaning up.
Do not be put off by the initial difficulty in taking the watch off as the keeper loosens and the rubber seems to become softer and you will soon become used to mastering the unfastening of the secure buckle after taking/putting it on and off a few times.
Just briefly regarding my experience with the other strap versions the Suunto leather strap version does look very good but mine rotted out after a couple of years of not even daily use especially at the keeper holes and it soaked up wet and moisture making it poor for use during physical activity.
The Suunto nylon look strap version again looked really great on the Xlander watch and would be my second choice but again it wore out where the eyelet holes fasten the watch and split across out of the expanding hole again in fairly short time as it is leather sided against the wrist.
So please be assured from a watch collecting fanatic! that the Suunto Xlander military strap is excellent. The Facewest kit included the Suunto spring bars and was a great deal.
Had my Suunto X Lander since 2007 and gone through 3 synthetic straps during this period which is shocking considering they're £20 a pop and I don't wear my watch everyday. None the less the new military strap feels superb in black rubber and make the watch stand out far more. Really pleased as it's comfortable and looks the part and I'm sure it will last longer!
This is the 3rd strap I have purchased for my Suunto watch and in my opinion the best so far. It is easy to fit, strong and comfortable. Obviously being of rubber material it is easy to clean, important in my line of work and its inert so sweat does not soak into it and make it smell. The watch strap buckle and and retainer are particularly efficient and this is a strap that will not become undone easily by accident.
I have replaced the strap on my Suunto Metron many times over the last 10 years and have always been disappointed that they do not last very long. Whether it is leather or rubber, it has made no difference. This Military strap is exactly what I have been waiting for. At last there is a strap available that really suits the rugged look of the Suunto Metron. It is reasonably priced and feels and looks excellent on the watch. I can't say how long this one will last, but it gives me the impression that it will be significantly longer than the original leather one and the subsequent plastic ones I have used.
