At its heart is the Alpride E2 electronic airbag system. It uses supercapacitor technology rather than a gas canister, which makes it safe to fly with and lets it deploy quickly at high pressure, even in freezing temperatures. Durable fibre-reinforced fabric protects the high-wear areas where skis or snowboards attach when bootpacking, and bright orange detailing makes you easier to see on the mountain. A U-frame back system and broad hip belt transfer the load well for all-day comfort, while the shorter back length gives a snug fit for unrestricted movement. For ski touring, splitboarding or riding off-piste, this 30L airbag pack is a dependable backcountry companion.

The Alpride E2 system uses a super capacitor to to power a turbine fan to rapidly inflate the airbag. As it is an electronic system there is no need for compressed gas cartridges, so everything you need is included in the pack. Unlike a Lithium Ion battery the super capacitor is unaffected by temperature so you will get the same charge level even down to -30 degrees. The system can be charged before a day out by micro USB or amazingly, by two AA batteries. Inserting two AA batteries into the system will charge it up in under an hour, making in field recharges possible with minimum extra weight. This also means that you can test fire your pack before each trip at minimal expense.

Mammut’s back-panel opening, found only on their electronic airbags, gives quick access to the main compartment, and a 3-way zip clamshell opening makes packing and finding layers easy. A dedicated external front pocket keeps your avalanche shovel and probe organised for fast access in an emergency. There are plenty of ways to carry your kit, with a removable diagonal ski carrier, snowboard mounting and a splitboard attachment that lets you carry the board in two halves. You also get two attachments for ice axes and poles, an integrated helmet holder, lateral compression straps and hydration system compatibility. The height-adjustable deployment handle can be fitted on the left or right side. Because the supercapacitor allows multiple deployments, you can practise without the hassle of refilling a canister.

Buying an airbag is a massive purchase so if you would like to talk to us about it and need any information not provided here then please give us a call to discuss.
