The Thermarest Prolite Plus is a superb self inflating mattress providing 3 season insulation along with excellent comfort. A combination that make the Prolite Plus one of our most popular self-inflating mattresses as it offers enough warmth for cooler weather camping but is light enough for expeditions, trekking and backpacking use.

The Atmos urethane foam has holes cut into it to lower the overall density and weight of the Prolite Plus. In this latest version of the mat theses are cut at an angle. This has the effect of decreasing the air flow between the ground and the top of the mattress but still keeping the weight to a minimum along with excellent ability to be compressed. The outer 50 denier Polyester fabrics are tough and durable with the addition of Rip-stop on the upper side.

    Thermarest Prolite Plus Features

    • Lightweight Atmos foam
    • Diagonal-cut foam offers efficient year-round comfort
    • Expanding foam core self-inflates
    • Stuff sack included

For me one of the most important things when hiking and camping is getting a good nights rest and feeling ready to go again the next day. With that in mind I decided it was time to ditch the old foam roll mat and invest in something which would feel less like sleeping on the kitchen floor.

The Prolite Plus seemed like the perfect weight to comfort ratio for my needs and I have not been disappointed. It feels lovely and comfortable to lie on (it's still a camping mat, but it's pure luxury compared to some of the foam mats around), and it doesn't take up too much space in my pack. It inflates pretty quickly, with just a couple of short blows in the valve to make it harder if that's how you like your mattresses, and it deflates really easily as well. I had wondered whether I would be able to get it back down to it's small pack size after use, but this has proven to be easily done. Thermarest include instructions on the best way to deflate the mattress and by following those I was quickly and easily able to get it back down to the size it was when it was delivered to me. To keep the mattress rolled up tightly I have used an old backpack strap which I can wrap round and pull tight so that tit doesn't unravel and fill up the stuff sack ... it does also come with it's own stuff sack, if you were wondering, though I have replaced this with a waterproof one.

All in all a great purchase, only used for 3 nights camping so far, but I'm sure it'll be accompanying me on many more to come.

Much more comfortable than previous mats I have tried. Main benefit for me is that it packs down to a small size that easily fits into my rucksack.

I was looking to replace my existing budget self-inflating sleeping mat, and looking for a four-season mat suitable for winter camping in both Scotland and Norway.

So far, it's been easily warm enough - although not tested in snow so far - and being tall (6'4), the large size fits me well. It also packs down well, is light, and appears reassuringly durable.

Whilst more expensive than other budget brands, I've been impressed with the build quality of this and other Thermarests.

This is a great Mattress for camping. We have spent years camping around Ireland and one of the main problems we had was a feeling of dampness coming through the mattresses we used. These strong, durable, easily portable, quick self inflating, lightweight mattresses feel as comfortable as the big, heavy, oftentimes awkward mattresses or camping beds that we previously used, but there is no feeling of cold or damp. Because of its ability to retain heat, it also means that we don't need to carry as many blankets, allowing for us to travel with a lighter load. The fact that it double up as a very comfortable chair is an added bonus. Overall we are extremely happy with the product.

This mattress is excellent. The insulation seemed very good when I used it camping on mountains in Ireland in March, although I haven't tried it out in sub-zero conditions. Good level of comfort and very easy to carry.

A disadvantage is that when not in use it needs to be stored flat, and not in its pack.

I've had the opportunity to use my Prolite Plus in both summer and winter conditions. It has been absolutely fantastic and more than warm enough for use in a snow hole. The contrast from using a traditional foam mat is huge for both comfort and warmth.Highly recommended and the additional weight is more than worthwhile.

I used the Prolite Plus on a 3-month cycle trip. It is durable and noticeably more comfortable compared with the 2.5 cm Prolite I'd used before (itself quite OK on even ground). I always slept well, even on rough, cold ground. After 3 months it's still self-inflating well, although this takes a little longer in cold temperatures. The pack bag supplied is rather generously sized - if you roll the mat up tightly it will fit into a smaller bag and take up much less space in your pack.

Needing a sleeping mat for alpine expeditions over the winter, I took advice from a friend who runs a mountain guiding company, here in Spain. I used the mat for the first time last night and I have to say, it's almost as comfortable as the £300 mattress on the bed at home. I had to blow some air into the mat to get it to the level I wanted but not a big deal. Combined with the Mountain Equipment Xero 750 down sleeping bag, it provides a level of comfort I didn't believe possible in the mountains.

If I could be honest with you; don't go for the small. What is the point of a four-season sleeping matt if it doesn't look after your knees?
I chose the regular, and even at 6'2 I was completely contained on it's length. It's tapered, which if you're fussy might be an issue, but for me it just fits the bill perfectly.
Packed away; it's about the length of an a4 piece of paper, and the roll is about the width of a standard 2-slice toaster. It may seem like an odd way to measure things up, but there we go.
In use? I've perhaps been slightly more comfortable on a Thermarest before but not much. It's quick to inflate, and roll away, and even at 13st I was off the cold ground and even warm thanks to whatever they're making this thing out of.
If you're looking for something light; this weighs about as much as a good loaf of wholemeal bread and it fits perfectly into my pack, my expedition bag; wherever.
This is a great addition to anyone's equipment list.
