    Purchase Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm

The Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm is superlight inflatable air mattress that can easily cope with 4-season use. This is thanks to a unique reflective baffle construction. The Neoair XTherm has an R-Value (a measure of thermal insulation) of 5.7, this is more than that of self inflating mats weighing four times as much as - this means that in terms of warmth to weight ratio, nothing comes close.

The outer fabrics have been improved and are now a soft textured fabric that provides superb next to skin comfort and are a lot quieter leading to a better nights sleep. The textured fabric also provides greater slip resistance, in other words you and your bag are less likely to slip off the mattress.

The ThermaCapture technology featured in the Neoair XTherm is a series of baffles made from a reflective fabric which provides an almost complete barrier to radiative heat loss. Unlike the mats with which Thermarest is almost synonymous, the Neoair range is not self inflating, instead it needs to be inflated by lung or pump power leading to its great advantage, low weight. At 430g the Neoair Xtherm is astonishingly light, especially for a mat designed to be warm enough for expedition use. This is the perfect mat for alpine bivis, arctic and tundra expeditions, winter mountaineering and year round backpacking.

Ok so here's our review of the Thermarest. We bought this last week and have taken it on a multi day bushwalk in the Blue Mtns of NSW. The temperatures ranged from -6deg Celsius to a max of 10deg during the day. We supplemented it with our 3-season tent and a decent sleeping bag.

From the moment we removed it out of the pack, we were impressed by how light it is - minimising weight is a priority as is warmth on our Trek as my partner and I have approx 25kgs to carry. The material was so thin that I was concerned about a puncture. My concern was baseless though - extremely well designed, it distributed our weight very well laying down and sitting up. We had it quite firm and the ground we camped on was rocky. Once laid out, it kept us toasty warm and comfortable. In fact, it's probably just as if not more comfy that our mattress at home. It was thick enough to keep the cold off the ground and to even out any small rocks under the tent. We didn't bottom out when we laid on it. Sitting on it, we did but that's to be expected. Fantastic insulation because there was ice on our tent and the floor of our tent was so cold. We didn't feel any of that laying on the mat.

The inflation / stuff bag that came with the Thermarest was a nice surprise and made inflation so much quicker, especially when pitching in the dark. I'm not sure how durable the ring of plastic would be at the end of the inflation bag but it worked without leaking during the three day trek.

The size was a compromise for the weight. We got the slimline one and it fitted beneath our sleeping bags without us rolling off though if you move around a lot you might find yourself partially off the mat. For the weight and warmth factor, it was perfect. Will be taking it to the snows on a multi day trek next.

Just finished a 7 day hard core coast line adventure with 5 friends and my new NeoAir Xtherm and are happy to report it is awsome!

If you are a side sleeper like me it's great. But what is even better is if you have limited options to stop ie bumpy ground, stoney ground or even tree roots the Xtherm is thick enough to smooth them out. I love it!!

Very happy with the mattress, it has excellent insulation and very comfortable. Huge difference compared to other mattresses because it's lightweight and has superior insulation. No more cold feet for me while sleeping :). The only thing that might be a drawback is that it is noisy during the night if you move a lot but if you are a sound sleeper or after you had a full day hike you will sleep like a baby anyway.

Looking forward to using it, inflated it with the battery air pump (bought separately) , left it inflated for a couple of days to make sure it's leak free (it was). Very comfy to lie on, looking forward to a wild camp on scafell pike with it soon.

Very light for a 4 season sleeping mat. Packs incredibly small. Not very loud as others might say. I say it is very acceptable. Definitely will not wake others up during the night. Takes a while longer to inflate compared to my Prolite mat, but the thickness and comfort are far superior. Highly recommended.

I spent a long time deciding between this and an Exped Downbeat.Considering weight, warmth ratings, depth and perceived comfort coupled with other people's reviews I decided on the Thermarest. The pump bag is a useful touch.

I initially pumped it full, which iis quickly done using the bag, spent a night on it and awoke with back ache. This led me to take a more sensible approach and reduce the pressure for the next night. This worked and was much more comfortable. No cold was felt at all from the ground. This was Welsh mountains and an overnight frost.

The mat is easy to inflate, deflate and pack away.It is also acceptably light enough to Backpack with a small packed size.

The build quality looks great and overall I am extremely happy with my choice. Great service from Facewest, thank you.

I bought this one to replace a Thermarest All Season which was amazing in all aspects except size and weight. This one retains all the good features of the heavier / bulkier all season mat while being really lightweight and packable. The included stuff sack / pump bag makes inflation a bit tedious because it simply doesn't have too much volume but I coupled it with the bigger pump bag with which I finish the inflation in no time at all (below a couple of minutes). The one I bought is the regular size (I'm 175cm tall) which is the perfect size to fit in any bivy bag on the market. I am a side sleeper and I had alreadyknown from the all season mat that thermarest inflatable mats are comfortable even for us side sleepers (less area in contact with mat) so if you are a side sleeper you won't have any issues. As with any inflatable mat it loses pressure during usage but I have never woken up to re-inflate I just realize that the pressure is a bit lower after waking up. I think this mat will stay with me for a long time and would really recommend purchasing it.

I'm a keen ultralight backpacker, usually completing 2-3 day trips wild camping.

I also considered the Neo air xlite having previously found the klymit frame worked very well but was just a bit too hardcore for me.I plumped for the xtherm to provide me with a mat for 4 season use and a one that would keep my wife warm when she comes with me in summer.

The pad is excellent as you'd expect.Inflating it using the stuff sack rather than just blowing to avoid condensation is a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

Overall, for its intended purpose, the xtherm is great. If buying just for me, and for 3 season use, I'd get the xlite and save a few grams.

As a moderately frequent hiker and backpacker, I have done the majority of my hiking/camping in both Australia and New Zealand. My sleeping mat has evolved from a foam mat, to a self-inflating foam mat through to this, the Thermarest Neoair XTherm. Being quite thin (185cm and only 60kg), I previously struggled for both comfort and warmth at night with my previous mats.

I bought my partner and I a Thermarest XTherm each for our most recent trek, a trip to do Tasmania's Overland Track. I was attracted by both the warmth and comfort it claimed to provide and was certainly not disappointed. For the first time while camping, I slept comfortably and warmly through each night. Overnight temperatures were down to 0 degrees C and the XTherm performed admirably. Combined with its compactness and lightness, it was a pleasure to hike with and will be a staple in my pack from now on.

The only downside is the price, but if you can stretch the budget to accommodate it, the XTherm is a great piece of kit and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone considering adding it to their hiking hardware.

LI bought it because it's ranked #1 on outdoor gear lab. I just came back from an 8 day Tour du Mont Blanc (it's so hot BTW). I used this pad for 7 nights. I think the pad performs as advertised.I bought it in case of temperature drop. There was only one night maybe below 10 degrees, so not a thorough test. But I did feel comfortable and warm all the time. The pad is also very thick when inflated but packed very small when deflated compared with my old Thermarest prolite.

The accompanied staff sack is too small/slow to inflate the pad. I used a large bin bag, which was efficient (about 7 bags of air to inflate) but fragile and was broken after couple of times of use. There is a dedicated pump sack/stuff sack/stool cover, which looks worth buying.

I upgraded to this model as size and weight became more important in my system. The R rating of this mattress is off the charts and it packs so small and light that it fits easily alongside the sleeping bag and bivi bag in the small section at the bottom of my backpack. It comes with a pouch and transforms into a pump sack to save you from blowing it up after a long day walking. If money is no object, this is the mattress for you.

I purchased the Thermarest NeoAir XTherm for a charity trek across the Sahara desert, which worked excellent for me as it was light to carry and did not take up much room which made me purcase it in the first place. It was comfortable to lie on and provided extra heat. It inflated and deflated with ease and even I managed to pack it away with ease. The only bad points are the price and it was too short for me, but that was my fault for not looking properly when ordering. If you can afford this item I would recommend it.

Super light, tiny pack size, oh so comfortable, none slip surface works a treat, not tested in cold weather yet but with the silver heat reflective material I imagine it will perform brilliantly, this thing really is as good as it gets.
