The Smartwool Trekking Heavy Crew is the perfect warm sock for the colder months. The Heavy Crew provides shock absorption helping you to carry those heavy loads. The elasticated arch brace holds the sock in place as and prevents it rolling within the boot, while the flat knit toe seams prevent rubbing and keep things comfortable.
Merino SmartWool Blend
The Smartwool Trekking Heavy Crew is constructed of 80% Merino Wool which gives it the comfort and breathability of pure Merino Wool with extra durability from synthetic fibres.

Customer Reviews of Smartwool Trekking Heavy crew (Winter 20)
I always wear Smartwool socks when hiking. They wear well and stay up the leg. Perfect height on the leg for hiking. The heavy crew are as thick as you'll ever need unless you are hiking in Antarctica!
Well cushioned sole and generally thick all over. I do have thicker socks but they don't fit in my boots! I bought these partly for warmth but mostly because my boot is a fraction too large and a thicker sock helps reduce volume. Anyway great as they are its hard to get too excited about socks!
It seems a very good quality product, looks and feels well made. Expensive, but this is the only negative and I think it is always better buying good quality.
I am a UK size 9.5, and I went for the mediums, even though I just fall into the large range. I feel the slightly smaller version fits around the foot a little better, obviously giving a more snug feel, with less unnecessary extra wool crimping up in your boot. Really it is a personal choice though. Clearly, compared with the Extra heavy variety there is slightly less wool on this version, so supposedly less warmth and less padding, all which aren't necessary a bad thing. Overall, a good buy, very comfortable. I would recommend them. Excellent service from Facewest.
I had bought these as an alternative to the heavier Smartwool mountaineering socks that I have previously used and find them to be just as good - possibly slightly better as the fact that they are slightly thinner give a slightly firmer fit around the foot which can be of a benefit depending what type of boots you are wearing them with and how much room you have (a pair of my trekking boots is just slightly on the small side with the heavyweight socks but these fit them perfectly). They are also very comfortable to wear as well as being extremely warm. Based on my use of them so far am in the process of purchasing another pair. Good for outdoor wear in the cold weather as well as a pair of extremely warm everyday-wear socks in winter.
