Customer Reviews of Smartwool Mountaineering Extra Heavy Crew (Winter 20)
I'm yet to find a sock that's more padded, comfortable and durable at the same time.
Wore it on a Lapland ski trip for the colder days, they were great, staying dry and warm, and didn't get sore feet despite the rental cross-country ski boots.
I usually wear a thin woolen sock inside to prevent blisters, but I think I could do without, for this one.Owned a pair for a year now, they're very durable.
Have been wearing it each time I need comfort or warmth, or even to break in some new, stiff hiking boots.
Great pair of socks. Nicely padded and suitably warm, and fit well on me (size 9) without rucking. Nice secure cuff means they don't fall down once on.
Really thick sock (will likely need you to size your footware a size up), gives you very cushioned steps and is amazingly warm. Up to now it has not loosened up and stays up mid calf as it should.Very comfortable sock for very cold weather.
Over the years, I've bought and worn numerous types of walking, hiking, climbing socks - but these are now without doubt my socks of choice. They are incredibly warm and comfortable and the reinforced sole improves their hard-wearing nature and comfort when wearing them for a long time or over rough terrain.
I now keep a pair or two for wearing around the house in winter too - no slippers for me!
So, I was even happier when the Advent Day offer gave me a free pair of Smartwool socks when buying two!
Having purchased some of these socks before, I was now in the position of having to replace them as had worn the previous ones until they wore right through the soles. These are without a doubt some of most comfortable and warmest socks I have bought. They work very well with a thin pair of undersocks (or simply on their own) when hill-walking or climbing in winter and are equally suitable for wearing around after a day outdoors. They are quite unrestrictive so quite easily wear during the day and sleep with them on as well without feeling like you've had them on the whole time (with the added advantage that they transfer sweat quite well and do not have a tendency to smell if you're in the position of having to wear for a prolonged period). On top of that, they are just as good for wearing about the house and keeping your feet warm and comfortable - they are not the cheapest socks you will buy but it's relative to how much use you get out them. I felt you get what what you pay for.
