Rab Womens Nebula Jacket (Winter 17)

Rab Womens Nebula Jacket (Winter 17)

The Rab Womens Nebula Jacket is an ideal insulating jacket for cold damp environments. It uses a combination of Pertex Endurance fabric and Cirrus loft synthetic insulation to give a down like insulating layer without the drawbacks which down suffers from when wet. Micro baffles prevent the Cirrus from migrating through the jacket while the lighter internal Nylon ensure it has freedom to loft. The Pertex Endurance outer has an water resistant outer coating which is totally windproof yet is still very breathable, as well as tough, making it an ideal outer for Scottish winter conditions.

Cirrus insulation combines the benefits of down with synthetic fill. It is in fact a synthetic insulation that unlike others has not been formed into a sheet. Instead it remains a loose water resistant down like fibre that expands to form a "cloud of warmth". It will deliver the same warmth for its weight as 600 fill power duck down. As well as lofting properties Cirrus is very compressible as well as robust. It's also very fast drying allowing Cirrus to get back up to its full insulation potential a lot faster than Hydrophobic down or synthetic insulation that is formed into a sheet.

Great jacket, ticked all my boxes. Lightweight and as water resistant as it claims - though not fully tested in anger yet. Covers the bum well for warmth, sleeves too long but scrunch up ok. Sizing is true, fit is snug but as desired as opposed to too tight. Doesn't have the soft, squishy feel you get with down, but then also won't get the wet, soggy feel you get with down. Serenity colour is much bolder, and lovelier, than it looks on-line.

Living in the Lake District I can encounter many types of weather in one day! I wanted a light weight jacket that would keep me warm in wintery conditions but would also be shower proof. I weighed up the pros & cons of down versus synthetic & came to the conclusion that the synthetic would be more suitable for me as the insulating properties would not be affected if the jacket got wet. (It rains a lot in Cumbria!) I also wanted a jacket that was breathable as I often spend the day walking on the fells & don't like to get too hot.

I love the hood & neck of the Nebula, I can zip it up fully without it feeling restricted. There is room in the hood for air to circulate but it can be pulled tighter if windy. The jacket fit is neat & I like the longer length at the back for back & bottom warmth. There are three pockets, two on the outside of the jacket & one inside which is great as I can store valuables. The jacket is very light weight & can easily be stowed in a rucksack without using up much space. All in all it is very versatile & well worth the money.

I used this jacket as my main piece of warm kit for climbing Mount Toubkal 4,167m in Morocco this weekend. It worked incredibly well and can't praise it enough. I run quite hot usually so I climbed at 4.30am in freezing temps with only a t-shirt underneath. The jacket blocks out the wind well and seems like it is made from a hardy material, as I put it through it's paces and it still looks good as new.

I love how it packs into it's own pocket and becomes a really good pillow. I also like how minimilist and light-weight it is. Big heavy jackets drive me nuts. This will certainly be replacing my old dedicated soft-shell jacket for future excursions.

Excellent product from Rab. Protects well from elements and very wearable(light, stylish and bright) Past its first test Hill Walking in Cairn Gorms with ease. Not so sure about durability hopefully it will last a couple of years at least I sit in-between Medium and Large this is definitely a medium for me. The fit is on the larger side.
