    Full Description

The Petzl Lynx Crampon is the most versatile crampon on the market today as it will fit any mountaineering boot . A semi-rigid crampon it's particularly suited to mixed climbing, steep ice or dry tooling.

The Lynx Crampon is very adaptive with interchangeable front bindings. For boots with toe welts the stainless bale provides a secure fitting. And for boots without toe welts then the crampon can be adjusted using the flexible binding. The heel of the crampon is fitted with a Leverlock binding with height adjustment. However the heel binding does require a heel welt.

The innovative design allows you to be able to climb with either a Mono Front Point or with Dual Front Points, and this adjustment can be easily made with one screw. The Lynx has a flat structure making it comfortable during walk-ins across glaciers. And in snowy conditions safety is ensured by the removable anti-balling plates.

The Lynx comes complete with a tool for all those adjustments and a Fakir Crampon Bag, providing protection when the crampons are packed away.

Top notch piece of kit. Superior for front pointing, and the fact the front claws are interchangeable is handy. The straps are super strong, and I haven't noticed any loosening in them. One thing that could be improved is the heel bails. There isn't any height adjustability like the Grivel ones have. This would be good to provide a stronger snap into place.

I bought them for this year's (2011) Scottish winter season so have not used them in anger yet, but they are simple to adjust for size, really light, and fit my mountain boots extremely well. Converting the toe binding from Newmatic to Cramp-o-Matic and back again is a bit of a faff and the supplied instructions aren't up to much, but it's quick to do once you get the hang of it. A very well made piece of kit!

A really versatile crampon that pretty much succeeds at everything it tries to do. The array of configurations may be a little bewildering at first but with perseverance these crampons can be adapted to pretty much any use. The front and rear bails are easily swapped out (with a little effort for the front ones) and the linking bar doubles as a spanner to hold the front adjustment nut when you use the supplied allen key. A nice little design touch that cuts down on an extra tool to lose or carry about! 14 down points adds great security on moderate terrain. If there is an Achilles heel (pardon the pun) it is the anti-balling plates, Petzl's are never brilliant. Bought to fit on Scarpa Phantom Guides for a mix of Scottish, Alpine and hopefully pure ice! They fit well on that boot with tinkering for the record.

Wow! These might be the holy grail? The anti balling plates do look a little vulnerable for multiple mixed climbs but the plastic and wire toe bails genuinely fit my Nepal Tops (the wire ones better than others I've tried). The front point options are outstanding especially when combined with the variations due to the toe bail attachment positions. I'd prefer the retaining strap to pass through the top of the heel lever but I'd hope Petzl wouldn't have kept doing it if they'd had any issues.

Used for glacier travel, traversing and some steep climbing. Pros: Light weight, multi adaptive with bail and rubber binding, durable bag, good anti balling plates. Cons: Finicky adjustment between toe binding modes, beware that my bolts needed tightening, all round, before use!
