The Patagonia Descensionist Pack 40 litre is a tough ski touring pack perfect for exploring the back country for an extended period of time. The main body is constructed from a durable Cordura fabric with a PU coating to shed any water or snow. The base area has a super durable Cordura Ballistic fabric which is also PU coated, protecting the base from holding any moisture. Both the fabrics are treated with a DWR coating to ensure your contents stay dry and that the pack will shed snow.
On the front of the pack there is a large zipped pocket for your essential rescue items, these can be accessed fast in an emergency. The Descensionist features a foam back system which provides support and structure when carrying larger and heavier loads. This back system is also removable and can be used as an emergency bivvy mat or removed totally for fast and light missions where every gram counts. The hip belt is wide for evenly distributing the load, providing comfort over long days.
A wide opening collar allows for easy packing, and with a single drawcord that closes the lid and cinches the collar this provides an excellent seal that won't come open. The haul loop is super strong and has been well thought through by being stitched into the suspension system of the pack, this greatly reduces it being accidentally torn out. Patagonia have paid attention to these details with all the straps on the pack, so they will be super durable.

Customer Reviews of Patagonia Descensionist Pack 40L
I bought the 30L version of this for myself a while ago, and after my husband borrowed it I feared that I would lose it, so got him the 40L one. They are a fantastic pack and have been used for hiking, ski touring and general use in all conditions. Its a functional well-made bag with the right amount of pockets and we love the easy side access. We haven't used them to carry skis with yet, but both carrying options look good. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
