I'm a keen skier who spends a lot of time in the high French Alps. This is the best-priced, best-specced starter* kit for safer skiing off piste. And remember, off piste doesn't have to meant the distant back-country. Serious avalanches have been known to happen 50m for piste boundaries and can kill you. If you're caught in an av without kit like this, your chances of survival are near-zero!

The Ortovox Zoom Plus is an excellent, easy to use transceiver. *Despite being 'basic', it has loads of advanced features that makes it work extremely well for finding buried friends and family, and being found! The probe and shovel are great too; the shovel is metal, which is important as you often need to move a lot of snow and ice to get at av victims who aren't buried deep. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I shopped around the EU and Facewest have the best price on this that I found. Their service is great too, so look no further. Remember though, this kit is does not, in itself, make you safe; be sure to learn mountain awareness so you never have to use it!
