Ortlieb Document Bag

I have bought two of these Ortlieb docment bags (A5 & A6) recently from Facewest. The idea is rather than carrying a large and cumbersome map cas containing an entire map, just carry one of these small cases with small map sections inside. I use MemoryMap software to print out just the areas I want. As far as the document cases themselves are concerned, they are the best of the type I have come across. If you are used to the traditional el-cheapo PVC map cases then you are in for a surprise. The material used by the Ortlieb cases is much thinner, lighter, stronger and more flexible. And, it is guaranteed to be waterproof. Whilst these wallets are a little more expensive than traditional map cases, they are definitely worth the money

Great little waterproof cases. The smaller size (A6) are good for keeping wallets, car keys, passports, marker pens and mobile phones dry while the larger A4 size will keep printed sections of maps of photocopies out of guide books protected. They are tough, flexible and despite extensive use I am yet to puncture any. They do remain waterproof even when submerged providing they are sealed with care. However if opened soon after submersion a little water often drips in, but this is not a major issue. I use them in the hills, canoeing and canyoning.

Well this does exactly what it says on the tin. We pretty much all use these in my TRP at the RMR unit. The Document Bag works well at keeping your map or other items dry and can easily be folded to stow away. The map that I had stowed in the Document Bag was submerged in a river for a good 5 minutes (in my combat jacket) and still managed to stay dry. My previous map case was quite bulky and I have been very impressed with this simple design. I went with the A4 size, the map can easily be folded to fit within the A4 size Document Case. The design is fairly straight forward and has strong seams so not likely to rip in rough conditions. Overall this is a simple design and does exactly what is required - keeps the documents/items stored in the Document Case dry. I would highly recommend this product.

I recently used both the A5 and A4 document bags whilst in Scotland. Despite really bad conditions, my maps were kept dry and in good condition. The cases were not affected by the cold either. The A5 bag was ideal for map extracts and could be easily stored in my hardshell pockets.

An excellent product, having the A4 size already which I use for maps. I bought this size for keeping my passport and money dry and safe while outdoors. It works very well.

Although not sold as a map case (Ortlieb describe it as a Document Case)the bag is ideal for carrying maps and protecting them against the British climate. The fact that it is an A4 size case means that it will fit both OS and walking maps printed from the internet, something many other map cases fail to do (unless you trim the printed copy down first). This is the second such case I have bought (nothing wrong with the first one, but my wife likes to carry her own set of maps/papers), and it is to replace a PVC case that split after only a few months use - my wife's has the original Ortlieb case which is still going strong after more than 6 months, and looks as if it will live out the product's 5 year warranty!

Adventure racers often need a no nonsense case for A4 printed maps. This Ortlieb A4 case is superb for the job as it is easy to roll it up and stuff in a backpack pocket, or even under the elastic hydration tube straps on a shoulder harness. Very good quality construction, backed up by a 5 year warranty. Would definitely buy another one if I ever have the misfortune to lose mine.

I have bought several of these Ortlieb bags - 1 as a map case & 1 as a mobile & wallet carrier. Fairly robust & totally waterproof. The map case has taken quite a battering & is holding up very well. Anyone who is looking for a quality solution and 100% waterproof into the bargain then Ortlieb is for you. I have bought cheaper map cases but they never last long. There are a variety of sizes to suit all your walking, climbing & biking needs.

I got this document bag about a year ago and have been using it a couple of tours in the Swedish mountains. In comparison to other bags (sometimes having a price times ten) this one is totally bullet proof in terms of water resistance, even though heavy rains, and I would almost dare to take a swim with it. Further, it is very easy to fold and during the hikes I kept it in my pocket. The plastic do not look worn at all once you have folded it a substantial number of times either. This is simply the best document bag/case I ever had and this is truly great value for money. Negatives: It could be tough to fit in a guide book if needed.

Having already owned a set of bicycle roll top panniers from 'ortlieb' I was aware of the usual quality of this brand and I can say I am not disappointed. I purchased the A5 version of the document case and I have used it as a map case for cut down maps for hill races. The quality of the waterproofing is such that ink jet printed map segments do not get smudged in adverse weather, when you really need your map. Great simple robust product. Highly recommend it!
