Customer Reviews of Mountain Equipment Alpine Pro Shell Gaiter
Well made, they look as though they should last a while, and they are a good shape and fit. On my winter mountaineering boots they fit very well but on my ordinary walking boots the front hook position is too far forward to stay attached to the laces reliably.
My favorite gaiter for a about one and a half year now. Used them just about everywhere, from spring hiking in the Alps to serious blizzards in Scandinavia and can only say that they have been incredibly reliable.
Worn out 3 pairs of gaiters from multiple brands before buying these and never has one pair been so reliable on me as the ME Alpine gaiters. This is the first pair that I have found to be extremely reliable on both durability as being waterproof.
I must say that the lace hook does not realy like to stay put, but they are sealing nice and easy on both category D shoes and lighter/smaller. I had to get used to the tighter fit than my previous gaiters, but this is really comfortable and functional, for you don't have excess fabric brushing against each other and this prevents hanging in vegetation as well.
If you're looking for some quality gaiters that are easy to get on and off, have are the benefits of breathable goretex without compromising on the ruggedness then look no further. These are really easy to attach/ take off and seem to have no difficulty in staying put, I haven't experienced sweaty legs thanks to the way they combine the goretex for the majority of the gaiter with the hard wear areas in a nylon for durability. Nice adjustable collar for a really comfortable fit and have kept all the water out so far. The only question will come when they've been through a bog to see how well the Velcro flap keeps the mud out of the zip.
Bag yourself a bargain on Facewest too, great company, fast delivery and no quibble returns... Hard to argue with.
This is my one stop shop for gaiters. It has been my favourite gaiter for the last 4 years, and this is the 3rd one I have bought, after wearing the others out (I wear it daily for my job, all 4 seasons of the year). I like the fact that you can get replacement under foot straps for replacing the broken/worn strap - so you don't need to buy a new gaiter when this happens. The zipper has never broken, or the poppers. It is ultra reliable. I have however had broken buckles in the past - but a little gaffer tape over these prevents them from ever breaking in the future.
