The Marmot Club was formed on a University of California Glaciology project trip to Alaska by two guys that loved being in the mountains. Between 1971 and 1974 the Marmots made down jackets and sleeping bags eventually setting up shop as the Marmot Mountain Works. Very soon after they received an order to make jackets for the film The Eiger Sanction, a real coup. Then in 1976 they teamed up with W.L Gore to become the first manufacturer of Gore-Tex waterproof jackets.

Since those early days Marmot has gone on to become a leading manufacturer of outdoor clothing and equipment having built working relationships with the leading fabric and material suppliers.
