    Full Description

The Hennessy Explorer Deluxe is more than just a hammock, the Hennessy Hammock is a complete ultralight shelter and hammock rolled into one. The Explorer Deluxe is a bigger version of the Expedition Asym. It is designed for those over 6ft tall and up to 140kg.

The Explorer Hammock is shaped to keep your back straight and level when lying down making it a great choice for those who struggle when camping on hard ground. The Explorer Deluxe is a hammock, tent, chair and lounger all in one lightweight combo and provides excellent protection from the sun, wind, rain and insects.

Our Hennessey Hammocks come with a choice of two closures. First is the classic double flap base set up - enter through the bottom of the hammock and it closes automatically once you're inside. The best system for leaving all the bugs outside. The second is the more compact and lower profile zipped side opening. Easier to get into but harder to keep the bugs out as you zip it up. The weights and pack size are the same for both so which you choose is down to personal preference.

Super dooper is all I can say, what a clever item! It fixes up to the trees perfectly well and is easy to set up. the hammock itself is very lightweight, breaths and dries easily and the tarp, with the correct set-up, will see water streaming off you allowing a perfect night sleep. I've used this same item in rainforests, deserts, mountains and normal British terrain with only problems being mosquitoes! Very good and hard wearing hammock.

I purchased this product for lightweight overnight camping as a replacement for my hike tent. The hammock is a great size and weight making it much easier to carry in a small pack than my tent. Setting up was simple taking only a few minutes and packing up was equally easy. In use the hammock was very comfortable as well as easy to enter and leave. The hammock coped well with rain and wind with little movement and no rain entering under the fly. The pocket and hook system inside for storing gear is useful and well thought out allowing me to get clothes, boots and small items stowed safely inside. There was also room in the hammock for my small pack to sit comfortably inside with me. All in all an excellent product.

I bought this recently as an upgrade from a DD Hammock. At first I'd thought I'd made a stupid mistake and regretted my decision, the instructions on the bag are next to useless, the tarp is such a perfect fit to the hammock that it inspired no confidence what so ever and the tree huggers are definitely on the small side. But after a couple of days hammocking in the rain, I quickly grew to love it. With a bit of practice, pitching is quite straight forward and the despite my concerns about the tarp's size, I remained dry throughout the trip. The hammock is much more comfortable than any tent or bivi I've used and a much more rewarding experience. I would strongly recommend this hammock set up, but also making a few personalizations to the set up after using it a few times. There is a wealth of information on Google to help you with this.

I had a similar experience to Jim, in that the hammock itself was extremely comfortable and very spacious, but the tarp did not inspire confidence whatsoever. The set up is supposed to take 3 minutes with practice, but I found it took me a good couple of hours of adjustments and playing around with it to get it how I wanted it. I'd put this down to the confusing instructions and extra features that don't seem to be written about anywhere. I will be changing the mitten hooks that came with the hammock, as one of them has already bent out of shape with low-moderate pressure. Not a big deal, but it's something that could really let you down in bad weather. I've used it in heavy rain, and although the rain was coming straight down, I still got a bit wet throughout the night due to the shape of the tarp. I'll need to get another one as I love camping in crazy conditions! Another thing to consider is that (as with all hammocks) it can get very cold unless you can magically stay on your sleeping mat all night or you decide to shell out for an underquilt. (which will probably cost you more than the hammock in the first place. . . )All in all though, I don't regret buying this hammock. Once you've got past all of the niggles, you're left with an extremely comfortable, dry, luxurious night's sleep.

I ordered these snakeskins along with the Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Hammock. The Explorer Deluxe is one of the largest hammocks Hennessy sell and after a little trial and error, I found the snakeskins fitted well. I leave the rainfly connected to the hammock mains and pull the skins down over everything. I run a seperate ridgeline for the rainfly and it does not attach to the tarp - just free floats between the trees, to hold a sharp crease. Take down the ridgeline, and roll it up into the hammock, and pull the snake skins down over the whole System. It does make it more difficult to stuff back into the sack, but for the convenience of setup and take down with a few minutes, they are worth it. I would highly recommend this product.

Major improvment to my old gathered end hammock. Weights next to nothing and with the snakeskins it's really fast to set up. Great quality on the product, everthing is top noch. The tree-huggers are good but I strongly recommend buying the longer tree-huggers.

I've spent 6 weeks in the jungle with this hammock now and I kind of love it. It's super comfy, the mesh keeps out the mosquitoes, monkeys and jaguars* and if you peg out the side guy lines it allows a bit of air in. Lying diagonally across the hammock gives you a nice flat sleeping position. I'd say Snake-skins are a must, as they make pitching it and taking it down a doddle. I changed the rope for the whoopie suspension system and a couple of carabiners and added a couple of long tree-huggers, just for versatilitys sake. There's a couple of clips to hang things from the ridge line which I used to hang my boots from during the night, saving the obligatory tarantula check in the morning. And there's a couple of pockets for your head-torch/haribo/copy of 50 Shades. I feel that the tarp coverage that comes with the hammock is a bit too much of a tight fit and I know a few people who got wet when it wasn't quite positioned correctly (the margin for error is quite small). I used a slightly larger tarp and pitched that first which adds to the time it took to set up (annoying in the dark with things biting you) but kept me dry. When I have some time i'll have a look at incorporating my tarp into the Snake-skins so the whole lot can go up at once. Should be easy enough. For the UK I would use this with the sole intention of going hammocking somewhere as I think it's a bit too big to throw in alongside the rest of your kit on the off chance that you'll use it. The mesh would be really useful in Scotland to keep the midgies out (I've not tested this, I hope they're not small enough to squeeze through). In winter you will need some kind of insulation under you. My inflatable mat has worked for me, so long as you don't wriggle about in the night too much. So, summing up -Cons - Large pack size, Expensive (it's the Rolls Royce of hammocks). Pros - Super comfy, well made, practical, a complete sleeping system, quick to put-up/take-down. Kinda fun to sleep/relax in. I would highly recommend this in general. So long as you have trees, you'll get a great nights sleep. *May not keep out monkeys or jaguars.

I've had one go of this so far, first go, up in 3 mins-ish. Very pleased indeed with the hammock, very comfortable. I swung about in the sun for a couple of hours like an ape. It will be getting a proper outing very soon on a 3 day trek and if the initial test is anything to go by, I will be dangling about like a conker with a smile on my face. Nice piece of kit.
