The Exped Bergen and Pocket liners are custom Exped products for the military. The package is the 3 fold dry bags that you need to waterproof a standard Bergen and side pockets. We also sell the Main bergen and the side pocket dry bags separately. The main dry bag is 140 Litres which is enough to take a full bergen load and still be rolled down and closed to make it waterproof. The side pockets are 13 Litres each, again to take a full load and still be closed properly.
Note: the image is not of the actual drybags, but of some other drybags so you get the idea.
Customer Reviews of Exped Waterproof Bergen Liners Olive
I purchased this set to use on military exercise in Ireland in a PLCE bergen. They managed to keep my kit dry through a river crossing and some torrential Irish summer downpours. I had my dry kit in one side pocket, sleeping system inside the main compartment in the gigantic dry bag. I kept a warm top(snugpack type) in my daysack using the 2nd dry bag. The drybags are affordable, effective and most importantly light.
If I was looking for dry bags again I wouldn't go for this set as the 140L is just ridiculous. Unless you actually put your bergen into it you'll never fill it. You're much better off getting multiple smaller dry bags for each item(colour code them!). Using multiple dry bags means that in the unlikely event of a bag failing only one item will get wet and it's easier to access stuff when its individually bagged too.
I purchased the set which consisted of the 2 side pouch liners and Bergen liner. After testing them out in the field on exercise I can confirm that they are top quality. Strong, durable and a decent size to fit all the kit into. They kept all my kit perfectly dry and they seal up really well. Also, the inside is white which makes it easier to see the kit inside.
I use this particular set in my bergen when on exercise, and so far they haven't let me down, be it during full kit river crossings or tabbing in the finest weather that Brecon has to offer! Unlike some liners which are thick and heavy (such as Ortlieb), these Exped ones are very light, flexible, and shape to the inside of the bergen easily, allowing you to utilise every bit of space inside the pack. As a previous reviewer has also mentioned, the liner is big enough that a fully packed bergen can be safely stowed and sealed inside it, again just another option that could potentially come in handy. On inspection of the liners themselves, the quality is clear to see, and they look like they will last many years of hard use. A definite winner here!
I use this waterproof liner in a military issue bergen/rucksack of 135 litres. The real benefit of this extra large dry bag is that it has extra room, most bags have no spare capacity. This is a strong bag that could also be used for buoyancy either enclosing all your kit or inside the rucksack. Ideal for river crossings. I use this dry bag inside the bergen, with the bergen clipped to the outside rear deck of a klepper double kayak. Very robust and extremely waterproof. Excellent product.
