I was heading to do an arctic trek in Finland. And managed to damage my old pole... so I looked online for reviews and found these at a great price. The poles were light and very easy to adjust. Even in extreme temperature with gloves on. I found these great. They were left out over night in -22 and were great ready to use. No issues with handles.. adjustable tension.

Over all would recommend these.

I tried using poles in February on my climbing clubs Scottish winter meet. I was trying to make an attempt on An Teallach and if you've ever done this you'll know the walk in is a very early start a really long way. I wanted to reduce the fatigue of the walking in with all the gear over this distance, Even though I'm only 32 and don't suffer from knee problems (yet!) I do want to preserve them to enable me to be walking and mountaineering for years to come!

I must say it was a revelation, the reduction in fatigue and pressure on my knees along with the improvement of posture whilst carrying a heavy sack was fantastic. The An Teallach attempt turned into an epic which we backed off from, due to the delightful Scottish weather, but we got back to car some 18 hours later and whilst being knackered our legs and backs we remarkably fresh. As I was unsure at the time whether I'd get on with poles I only bought a cheap pair from Sports Direct. These broke halfway into the week and did not have cause to replace them unitl a few weeks go.

I bought the BD Trail Poles to accompany me to my first Alpine trip. Again wanting to reduce fatigue on the walk ins to some of the climbs I wanted to bag, especially being at altitude. I must say these poles seemed bullet proof. The locking mech on the shaft is easy to use with gloves, They were really robust and foam grips and wrist straps were comfortable. They don't pack down all that short, so I did find I was taking all three sections apart and putting the loose sections in my bag when I started climbing. This was not an issue for me, but some might want a pole that packs down to a shorter length to put in their bag. I would recommend.

Used with powder baskets in heavy snow and tested as emergency deadman anchor and tent anchor.

Pros: Reasonable weight for strength, good size when collapsed, comfortable foam handle.

Cons: None

I instantly liked these poles. The handle and grip extensions are sensibly made in one piece, unlike others which are not connected to the handle itself and slip and slide when too much pressure is put on them. I am very impressed with the FlickLock system Black Diamond use. Despite some heavy use they held fast and the height of the poles I'd set them to didn't budge. Unlike some cheap poles, if you pull the sections out completely by mistake, they slip back in without any difficulties. The highest settings on the poles allow adjustability for even the tallest of hikers out there - I am 6ft 6 and didn't need them at their maximum length. They feel light yet robust, so you need not worry about being too gentle and this allows you to focus on the trail ahead. 5 stars!

I bought a pair of BD Trail Poles about 2 years ago, thinking that they would help my knees only at descending steep slopes. But since then, I used them in all kinds of weather/terrain: steep rock, grass, mud, ice, snow and so on.

The flicklock system is perfect, I have never had any problem with it, even when 2-3 segments of the pole were deeply frozen. The foam handle also is a huge advantage, as much as in cold season as it is in the summer, for sweat absorption and non-stickiness.

Overall, these poles are definitely one of the best all-round trekking poles out there.
