The Arcteryx Rho AR Zip Neck can be used either as a base layer or as a mid layer, making it a superbly versatile piece for cold conditions. It is made from Polartec Power Stretch, which is a very warm fleece fabric with the ability to wick moisture very quickly from the skin. The Power Stretch is actually made of two layers, the outer being a durable Nylon that will contribute to wind resistance and will resist pilling, while the inner is soft polyester that draws the moisture away via the loose fibres.
The Rho AR Zip Neck has a trim fit and the fabric benefits from a four-way stretch, so this ensures that your freedom to move is never restricted. A tall collar prevents chills and a zipped neck enables easily venting, ideal when you get too warm. A handy single zipped chest pocket, helps keep your small items safe and secure.

Customer Reviews of Arcteryx Rho AR Zip Neck (Winter 19)
The Arcteryx Rho AR Zip is a fantastic base / mid layer, very warm, superb fit, amazingly comfortable and washing like new! I can't recommend this garment enough. Also I'd like to add that Facewest is a brill company, not only are they 10% cheaper on the Internet, but also give you another 10% off your next order! And their delivery is super fast too so it's 5 +++++ from me.
I recently purchased a Rab Power Stretch Pull-On as a means of getting an Arcteryx Rho AR Zip Neck equivalent at a lower price. Sure, the Rab was made of Polartec's Power Stretch but its boxy cut (2014 model) seemed better suited to a short and stocky, well-gutted middle aged customer than what I had experienced when I once tried on the Arcteryx Rho AR. Bummer, indeed! Sure, the Rab could be worn as a mid-layer but its loose fit over my abdomen -and its short length- made it a compromised solution as a base layer.
Seeing there were no short cuts to the Arcteryx fit, I hit Facewest and ordered the Rho Ar. And yes, my memory of my previous fitting of the top had served me well--it fit like a hand in well-sculpted glove.
The top fits NTS all through my torso and throuhout the length of my arms, with fantastic length of arm and hemline. It's one sweet piece.
The top doesn't seem to have any embedded anti-microbial technology and it does get stinky as such plastic tend to do. However, the top comes out smelling pristine after each wash (I wash it at 40C with Grangers Tech Wash or unscented liquid hand soap).
(NOTE: I'm 6'3 (190cm) tall and weigh approx. 198 lbs (90kg). Though not a six pack, I don't don much of a gut. I'm a size Large in most all things Rab & Arc'teryx)
