The Arcteryx Psiphon AR Pant is a superb softshell pant that is ideal for alpine and mountain use. The Burly Double Weave stretchy fabric is very durable, air permeable and weather resistant. The lower leg has a zipped gusset, if part or fully opened, this allows the Psiphon AR Pant to be worn with larger mountaineering or ski boots. Reinforcement at the instep, provides cut resistance and prevents abrasion in this high wear area.
Truly alpine trousers, they are trim fitting with a tapered lower leg, combined with a four way stretch to make a great choice for climbing. They are also articulated allowing for total freedom of movement, without any unwanted fabric getting in the way. They are designed to be harness and glove friendly with zipped pockets for security and a metal hooked belt.

Customer Reviews of Arcteryx Psiphon AR Pant (Winter 18)
I have owned the Gamma AR for 3 years now and love the fabric and the cut, it has been my go to winter pants for all my activities (winter walking and climbing) and numerous crampon holes prove it. The fabric of the Psiphon AR is the same as the Gamma AR's and the differences are only in some details that make it worth spending the money to purchase it. First of all the buckle - I find the hook buckle amazingly comfortable to use: it stays in place (unlike Gamma AR's which slips and needs readjusting), there is no slack webbing to manage and you can operate it with gloves on. The second is the zippers and the snap closure in the lower leg gusset that allows for any kind of configuration depending on the boot (works with ski boots on as well). The lower legs are reinforced to avoid crampon holes. Finally the fit is a bit trimmer which is really welcomed over the slightly more loose fit of the Gamma AR. I really think that this is a proper do-it-all winter pair of trousers and if you only get one you should really consider it. If this was out when I purchased the Gamma AR I would have gotten this instead.
I got these trousers for a trip to Bolivia, but could not leave them sat at home when a quick weekend trip to North Wales came up. In very wet, and near the tops snowy condition these trousers performed as expected with the now accustomed Arc'teryx quality.
Excellent attention to detail from the brushed cotton waistband to the tapered leg, they are exactly as advertised. Now to get them to Bolivia!
Great service from Facewest where a accumulation of rewards points makes the prices even more competitive.
Used in heavy snowstorms, for long climbs and at altitudes with temps down to -20C.
Pros: Very comfortable, warm, breathable and wind resistant.
Cons: Shaped fit makes thigh pocket unusable for most things, waist belt system very difficult to use gloved.
