As a soldier I require a watch that is robust, reliable and not so expensive that I cry like a baby if I was to lose it. I asked around at work and the Suunto Vector seemed to be popular so I decided to give it a try.
Firstly, this watch is big! It has a large, easy to read screen, which can actually be a problem when swinging a Bergan/Rucksack onto your back - it sometimes catches on the straps. I chose the white on black type which is supposed to be easier to read in low light (I have nothing to compare this to - so can't really comment).
Secondly, it is packed with gadgets. As well as telling the time, it has the usual alarms, stopwatches and countdown timers. What sold it for me though was the Altimeter, Barometer and Compass. I have to be honest, I haven't used the Altimeter since I calibrated it. The Barometer can be quite useful though if you spend time outdoors, and the compass has been very useful (and accurate - I tested it against a Silva and Prismatic compass).
Essentially, this is a first class watch, but if you don't require anything other than something to tell the time, save your money and buy a Casio. If however you are a fan of gadgets, watches and the outdoors you would do a lot worse than the Suunto Vector.
