Trek'n Eat Peronin High Tech Food

Trek'n Eat Peronin High Tech Food

Peronin High Tech Food is a meal replacement drink designed for sports use, with added vitamins and minerals. It is ideal for when you're needing a meal but either can't cook one or can't stomach solid food! Used by ultra runners, high altitude mountaineers and adventure racers, it will give you the energy and nutrients required to both keep going and stave away hunger.

Unlike regular food, Peronin High Tech Food doesn't need to be broken down in the stomach and is therefore absorbed straight away - 96% within around 6 minutes - perfect for when you need energy fast. This also eliminates the fatigue that is experienced after eating a large meal from a lack of oxygen within the blood stream - and means you need the loo less! This all adds up to keep you going stronger and faster, whether you're halfway through an ironman or at 7000m in the Himalayas.

The Peronin is supplied in 100g pouches as one serving. To use, simply add 400ml of cold water, stir and drink.

These are a great way of getting balanced nutrition in during endurance events. They are easy on the stomach so won't distress the system after hours on the go, eliminating a problem a lot of people face in trying to force down food during adventure races or mountain marathons.

The packaging is robust without being too heavy, so they will survive sitting in a pack all day without having to be too careful about packing. They mix well enough with water, not 100%, but then I was tired while mixing :-).

Used these packs on the Haute Route. Worked very well. Tasted fine and were very filling. Would definitely use them again.

Mixes well in the bottle, high nutrition and more of a food substitute than any kind of normal 'energy' drink. Tastes fine, not sweet or sticky at all, though the consistency is a bit thick, more like a water-based milkshake than a regular drink. I'm a regular marathon and ultra marathon runner up to 150+ mile races, so I need nutritional supplements that are easy to use, digestible and particularly easy to get down quickly and without any fuss. I was recommended Peronin by another elite ultra runner, as I had had some problems with energy levels on the longer events. This works well so far - I think it may be best to alternate with a more regular drink or water, as it's not ideal on its own for hydration, but I'm looking forward to trying it out more fully at my next long ultra event.

Having struggled with GI distress during Ironman and ultras, I was looking for something that would be light on the stomach but would provide a decent number of calories. I have now used the vanilla and orange flavoured sachets on Thames Path 100, Montagn'hard and Race to the Stones and have been impressed by the results. Each sachet creates a neutral not too sweet drink that seems to be easily absorbed. The only downside I can see is that the sachets are fairly large and are probably best left in a drop back if this is an option. Will definitely form part of my race nutrient for future ultras.
