One star is far more than this product deserves. I tried this out before a trip and thank goodness I did. The product was awful, the taste the look the texture, all of it was terrible. The only redeemable feature was the packaging and the way you heat the product up. Perhaps the others are better!

Purchased this main meal for a recent mountain marathon which I had entered in Ireland. As per usual it was very tasty and efficient to produce at our over night camp. Just add boiling water and wait around 8 minutes - no fuss, no mess and no washing up!! Excellent flavours and very filling. Will order again soon.

It was the first time, I tried to eat a dehydrated food and a friend of mine told me about this brand. I ordered some packages from FACEWEST. Then we climbed to a near mountain, for a weekend. I must say how easy it is to prepare a meal of dehydrated food, simply boiling some water. I still remember how delicious the BEEF AND POTATO HOTPOT was, this freezing night in our tents. It was something that left me and my friend full of energy. Since then, I’ve tried lots of other brands of dehydrated food and I think this one is my favourite.

I've worked my way through a number of brands of dehydrated foods now and the Beef and Potato Hotpot is one of my favourites. It's such a great comfort food after a cold day on the mountains and actually tastes pretty much like normal food! I'd also recommend the Mountain House spag bol.

One of the most horrible eating experiences of my life - "chicken korma" = weird creamy rice pudding with hints of pineapple. My experience of Mountain House stuff is much better

These are ideal meals to use with a stove like the Jetboil as the meals cook in the bag -so all the mess is in the bag and the stove/pot stays clean having only boiled water. The set up also saves gas as the meals soak in the bag rather than requiring simmering. The portion sizes are very good, but if you're a really big eater, they can be stretched further with instant dried mashed potato powder. Shelf life is excellent and, again, with something like a Jetboil, you can always carry one as an emergency ration. The only downside other than price is that you can't really eat them cold like you can with 'wet' ready meals. Just remember to pack a spoon!

I have to say I am not normally great fan of freeze dried "camping" food due to its high cost and poor flavour and generally seek out alternatives on the supermarket shelves.
However I came across the Mountain House range on a trip to the US and was pleasantly surprised. The taste and texture are OK and the pour in boiling water and wait system is foolproof and very economical on fuel, handy when back packing and weight is critical.
Knowing the calorific value of each pack (around 500) is also useful when planning a mission.
