The Trangia 27 is from the compact series of Trangia stoves with mid sized pots. Designed for the solo traveller or 2 people.
Trangia stoves are fantastically simple with no moving parts, valves or tubes. Their simplicity gives them great reliability. Constructed from aluminium with a lightweight burner unit the stove sets are incredibly light for their pot size and cooking capacity.
Trangia stoves needs a good air supply to work well and the key to them is the perforated windshield. Turn the holes in the lower windshield to face he wind for a good flame but turn then away from the wind in really strong storming conditions to help regulate the flame. The upper windshield covers nearly all the pot when in use so the stove is efficient with not much heat lost to radiation. A stormproof design.
The burner unit is a simple cup with holes around the edge. The surface fuel evaporates and is diffused around the edge of the cup to give a gas burner shaped flame. There is an adjustible cover to regulate the flame for more delicate cooking. The whole kit nests into the largest windshield and is fastened with a strap.
The Trangia stoves run on methylated spirits which is cheap and easy to obtain the world over.
Trangia stoves do not have the high output of LPG or Pressurised fuel stoves, probaly about half the output judging from the boil times but since for anything but water most stoves are not run at full output this is not much of an issue for most users. Trangias really excel on simplicity, reliability and weight. The performance of a Trangia is also degraded by very cold weather as the fuel struggles to evaporate. Trangias are ideal for 4 season temperate use or 3 season alpine use.
This Trangia 27 set includes burner unit with lid, simmer ring, 2 part windshield, 2 1 litre pots (1 graduated, 1 not), 18cm frying pan, 0.6L kettle, pan gripper and strap. Everything you see in the image.
Total weight - 860g. Remember this is for the stove and a complete cook set when doing weight comparisons.
