Sweet Rooster £189.00

The Sweet Rooster is the pinnacle of snow sport helmet technology. Constructed from a carbon fibre skull cap and thermoplastic lower shell the Rooster is the strongest, lightest (500g for M/L) and lowest volume helmet on the market. The technology that has been used to acheive this is amazing, please read the Sweet Construction information below. The short version is that you have a light comfortable helmet that won't make you overheat or look like Mr Cannonball but will give you fantastic protection. The Rooster comes with a set of fit pads which allow you to customize the inside of your helmet for the best fit and protection. The earpads are removable to make the helemt cooler to wear in spring or they can be replaced with the Rooster Soundpads (see related products below) which allow music and hands free phone operation whilst wearing the helmet.

The Rooster comes in 3 sizes, Small/Medium, Medium/Large and Large/XL. Please use the size guide below to choose the correct size and then use the fit pads included with the helmet and fit checks below to make sure you have the optimum protection.

How to choose the right size Helmet

Measuring tape:
This is a good tool to determine the correct circumference (measured around the head above the eyebrows) and get a rough idea of what helmet size will fit best. SWEET helmet sizes are measured in centimeters. Once you have received your helmet at home, try the following tests. Don't forget to experiment with the fit pads to get the best fit. If you are not happy with the fit Facewest will exchange or refund you for the helmet when returned in resaleable condition.

Trying on the helmet:
Align the front rim of the helmet above your eyebrows. Hold the straps on both sides and roll the helmet over the back of your head. Make sure the front is low on the forehead; otherwise no size or model will fit or protect you correctly.

Check for gaps:
Once the helmet is on it’s time to check for comfort and gaps. The comfort padding should be flush with the forehead with no major gaps. The back of the helmet should not cover the nape of the neck. Make sure the helmet is seated all the way down on the head. Finally, adjust the chinstrap to a snug and comfortable fit.

Roll test:
Slightly roll or lift your helmet off your head. If the skin on your forehead moves, you have a good fit.

Proper use:
Be sure the helmet is fitted just above your eyebrows and that your goggles fit your face while wearing the helmet. There should be minimal or no gaps between the top of the helmet and the goggles.

Satisfaction:
Make sure that you’re comfortable in your helmet. Now, go out and play!

Sweet Helmet Construction

1: Carbon fibre reinforced composite shell
All SWEET helmets are constructed from continuous carbon fibre reinforced thermosetting resin composites. They’re produced by arranging the carefully selected fibre-resin mixture into the desired shape. The configuration and direction of the fibres are optimized to provide maximum performance before they are cured inside a matching mould. The curing process in the mould is accomplished by exposing the material to elevated temperatures and pressures. The applied pressure provides the force needed to squeeze excess resin out of the material, to consolidate individual plies, and to compress any voids. The technology involved is hard core, and often used in the aerospace and car racing industry, where performance of the material is crucial.

Carbon fibre reinforced composite key features:
- Light weight
- Extreme strength to weight ratio
- Extreme stiffness / rigidity
- Corrosion resistant
- Fatigue and crash resistant
- Impact absorbent
- Temperature resistant

The carbon fibre reinforced composite shell is vital in distributing the forces, and makes sure that the padding will largely deform from the inside, rather than from both sides which would be the case with a soft outer shell. This means the padding is using its energy absorbing properties to slow your head down, not in being deformed by surrounding environment. When protection relies on padding alone, all the energy must be absorbed through a concentrated point of impact, rather than distributed over a large surface area. By distributing the forces we’re able to increase the duration of the impact with less helmet volume.

2: Thermoplastic occishell
All SWEET helmets utilize a 2 piece shell technology offering great fit and comfort and keeping the volume as low as possible. This is unique to all SWEET helmets, and a crucial part of the fit and performance. It’s designed to grip your skull from underneath, preventing the helmet from rolling on your head. However, its most important task is to protect your occipital lobe and surrounding hemisphere.

3: EPP liner
Crushable foams are ideal for helmets designed for one hard impact. The usual padding material in most sports helmets is EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene), which is a very effective foam for absorbing impact. The impact is absorbed as the cell walls in the foam crush on impact and slow the head down gradually.

SWEET, however use another crushable foam called EPP (Expanded Polypropylene). It’s more expensive, but it also has its technical benefits. EPP has better performance in cold weather, and a higher ‘memory’ (returning to its own shape after impact) compared to EPS. It’s often referred to as a multi-impact foam.

However, we recommend you to replace a helmet after a severe blow because there’s no way of monitoring the forces the helmet has been exposed to, and despite the foams high memory, the cell walls are still crushable if the forces are great enough (and then they won’t offer sufficient protection during the next impact.)

4: Fit Pads
A properly fitted helmet will be the most comfortable, but more importantly, the better the fit, the better the performance upon impact. Helmets offer optimal protection only when fitted and worn properly, thus, finding the right size and model is crucial. If the helmet does not fit correctly, your head will accelerate across the gap before it hits the padding, making it harder for the padding to slow down the impact. If a helmet is properly fitted, it will start to slow down the impact immediately, thus reducing the peak G force on the head.

Every SWEET helmet comes with a fitting kit consisting of several different self adhesive fitpads. This will ensure you get as good a fit as possible. There’s also a fitting manual that explains how to proceed, step by step. Note that there are circumstances where the helmet will not fit due to the difference between the shape of the helmet and the shape of your head. In cases like this, you may have to try on a few different models to find the right one.
