The Suunto t6d is the top model in the Suunto training range. The t6d features a sophisticated heart rate monitor, and an altimeter as well as PC compatibility. This is an ideal watch for those who want altimeter functions in addition to a comprehensive training watch.
The Suunto t6d can determine the impact of each training session on your body by measuring the interval, and fluctuation of your heart beats in addition to counting the actual beats themselves. The t6d has the common heart rate monitor features you would expect from a training watch - training zones, real-time heart rate, and alarms etc. It also features an altimeter, which means you can keep track of your ascent/descent as part of your training log as well as using it as a navigational aid while in the hills.
The Suunto t6d is PC compatible (using the cable supplied) which allows you to download and complete review of all your training data, plus keep a training diary using the Training Manager software (for more information see below). The training manager allows a review of the 7 body parameters which can be extrapolated from the EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption) calculation, the most meaningful of which is the Training Effect. EPOC and Training Effect give a value from 1 to 5 to each training session or race to indicate how hard it was on your body and what impact it will have on your fitness level. The t6d is compatible with all the Suunto POD's (See related products below).
The Suunto t6d is essentially the same as preceding model the t6c, but has the new Dual Comfort Belt. The Dual Comfort Belt has disturbance free ANT transmission and is compatible with most cardio gym equipment. Gone is the rigid plastic strap that every HRM for the past 15 years has used; the t6d has the comfort heart rate belt which is completely flexible and has a small disc in the centre that holds the battery and circuitry.

Suunto t6d Review
Reviewer: Alex, Vilnius (30-7-2011)
I bought Suunto T6d after owning Suunto T3 for some time. After using for two months I can say that I am definitely satisfied with my upgrade regardless the significant additional cost. Here is the summary of the things I like:
- T6d records the heart rate beat by beat. Thus, I can review my heart rate variability during the training (not just min, max and average).
- After running or cycling I can review the speed graph (not just max and avg speed) examining how my speed changes over time. I also can compare the speed graph with altitude graph.
- T6d records several additional body parameters. I understand EPOC and VO2 so far and consider them useful. I also like the Training Effect but it has been a part of Suunto T3 too.
In addition to T6d, I have bought Firstbeat ATHLETE software for the training load guidance and several additional features, which are not included into Movescount (Suunto Training Manager is no longer supplied with T6).
Overall, the watch works fine. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the HR belt looses contact with the watch. It happens most frequently while playing tennis. Currently, I’m trying figure out the reasons of this misbehaviour…
Desired features would include:
- I like wireless data transmission of Suunto T3 more than the wire version of T6d.
- Data storage could be bigger (enough for my 8 trainings)
- Integrated GPS could replace external GPS POD
- User interface and watch screen graphics are a bit obsolete. I think Garmin
Forerunner 610 is an interesting example, how Suunto T6 can be developed (of course, without loosing current useful features, which Garmin lacks).

I bought this watch on-line, the service and delivery time were great. On opening the box everything was there and worked exactly as it should. So far I have used the watch for a couple of weeks and it has been great, the only problem is reading the display in low light levels, but the watch does have a light so it’s definitely not a show stopper. As a piece of kit it is quite expensive however if you like training it is well worth the money. I would definitely recommend this watch.

Ideal watch for multisport activities. Found altimeter very useful for ski touring and mountain navigation though it needs regular updating in UK climate conditions. The HRM functions are perfect for training in HR zones and the stopwatch functions are intuitive and "fit for purpose". I like the fact that the watch is smaller and less obtrusive than other models, enabling me to wear it as a watch. In the month I've had it, nobody has commented on it, a fact that I'm pleased with!
On a negative front, I have had occasional problems downloading the data to the Movescount site, resulting in the loss of some training data - probably my fault but frustrating nevertheless!
In summary, its an expensive but almost perfect watch/training aid for multisport enthusiasts.

I upgraded my T6 to the T6d, and the new watch is a noticeable improvement. You can use a whole new type of pod - for cadence -and add an extra bike pod as well. You also get training effect and calories burnt information in real time. This means that there is a lot more information available to you at any one time, so the option to customise the display screens is really useful - you can choose what you need for that workout.
The one thing that is lost from the old T6 is the barometer, but that was never much use anyway. You still get temperature and altitude. My one criticism is that the options to set up distance intervals / speed limits are not that sophisticated. You can only have two lengths of interval, and only one speed limit at any one time. What I'd have liked is the ability to set at least 5 different distances, and the ability to match different speed limits to specified intervals so you can do pyramid training, or other more advanced workouts. I think Garmin products do some of this. But I much prefer the look of the Suunto, like that you can change the battery yourself, find the training effect calculation very useful and find the new heart rate belt very comfortable.

Suunto T6 c Review

Been using the T6 for 2 years, and switched over to T6c last autumn when the new model came out. The training series, and especially the T6/T6c (there's not much difference in these two, but I do prefer the advantages of T6c over the older model) is a great tool for any multisport enthusiast, as combined with the various pods available from Suunto it supports practically all sports, offering accurate information on speed and distance (and more). T6c brought some nice features in to the package - I like especially the possibility to tune in the different screens on the watch (what information is being shown on each), and the real time EPOC and training effect. The new comfort heart rate belt is also an improvement. Only thing which is a shame is that ANT technology used by Suunto to transfer the heart rate information between the belt and the watch does not work under water (too bad for triathlonists and alike).

Review: This was a close call between the Polar rs800 mutli and the Suunto t6c multi. What made the deciding factor, although the polar rs are estetically better looking, was the options on the T6C and the software which is superior. You also get better value for money with Suunto. I strongly recommend Facewest for the quick delivery and hassle free service.
