Suunto Vector Review
Reviewer: chris mather, liverpool (18-6-2010)
I bought this watch on weight of read reviews. Only utilized in UK walking conditions. I have found features excellent, compass is a good back up, having an indication for air pressures (as a hint of cloud coming in) and altimeter all good (does need calibrating at known heights per walk). I did find battery did not last as long as other reviewers quote, perhaps a dud one?! And watch is HUGE!

I have had one of these for many years and it has seen me through many mountain marathons as well as leading walk in the UK and abroad.
Big screen so easy to see in all conditions, accurate altimeter, great battery life, good backlight for night, easy to use controls, keeps perfect time, allows you to see how the pressure has changed over past few hours, (useful when camping to make a guess at incoming weather). Buy one! Just don't wear it to work ( unless you're a mountain guide!)

Purchased a Suunto Vector a while back and wear it everyday. I've very impressed with the features. The compass has come in very handy. Helped a few times in foreign cities to get my bearings! My only dislikes of the watch is the delay in turning on the light. And the compass points on the bezel have worn off apart from the recessed 00 and 180. Apart from these, this is a great watch for any outdoor activity.

I Purchased the Vector a short while ago, and I am impressed by several of its features. Firstly the altimeter is very accurate (if correctly calibrated!), and the rate of ascent/descent information is useful in planning future days out. The negative face is perfectly legible in direct bright sunlight, compared to the positive face version I previously owned. The Vector is very intuitive to use and all the features are easy to work. The watch itself is fairly large but really isn't noticeable on your wrist mainly due to its lightness, despite this it is very robust indeed! The fact that the battery is user replaceable was a big plus for me.

The Sunnto Vector is one of the best mountaineering watches ever designed in my opinon. I have been using one for about 4 years, it has taken a hammering and is still in perfect condition.
The Altimeter is a great aid when wanting to know your height but it does need to be cailbrated at a known height quiet often. I dont use the electonic compass much but its good to know I have it as a backup for my normal compass.
The Barometer is always very handy for trying to forecast the weather. I also like the fact the battery is user changeable

I bought the suunto vector (yellow) for my boyfriend's birthday last month. I was a bit worried that it would be too big but it looks good, if you have small wrists though it might look a bit bulky.
The compass is very accurate, but not really used the altimeter or barometer yet.
I got the dark face because it was supposed to be better in bright light, he works outside in the sun a lot and it is good and easy to read in sunlight.
The only disadvantage is that the mode button is sensitive and he seems to press it by accident a lot!
All in all a great product, I ordered the product for overseas delivery and it came very fast which i appreciated!

Suunto Vector: I have used this model of watch since 2002 - the first one lasted 7 years (with a couple of battery replacements) before finally coming to an end. It withstood so much abuse and worked so well that I had no hesitation in ordering a direct replacement.
The best feature for me is the altimeter. Relying on a barometric pressure sensor, it does require to be calibrated to a known point (and so you need access to a map, GPS, defined land mark) each day, but once this is done, I have been impressed by its accuracy. The 'logging' function on the altimeter is the feature I have used most be it for skiing, biking or running. It is nice to look back on the day and know the total height gain and loss for your chosen activity. Granted, there are more advanced Suunto watches which will take this to the next level by adding GPS functionality to allow the exact route you have followed, but this was above and beyond what I required from a watch.
The one thing I dislike about the Suunto watches is the Velcro strap that can be bought as an accessory. Of course, this is an optional accessory, but initially I wanted the theoretical ease of taking the watch on and off which this would allow. However ... the mechanism by which the strap is attached to the bracket on the watch is very weak and tears easily. I know this because unfortunately, my second Suunto Vector went the way of the dodo a few months ago when skiing and all I was left with was a broken piece of strap! This painful lesson resulted in further outlay for another one (so technically this is my third Vector watch) and its safe to say I won't be buying that Suunto extra again!

Suunto Vector Review
Reviewer: Graham Gazzard, Tunbridge Wells, Kent (11-8-2009)
I suppose I am unusual in that I'm not in the usual target market for the Suunto Vector, I'm not particularly active nor adventurous. However I was looking for a tough, feature rich watch to replace my Casio Protrek. Having lived with the Vector for a couple of days I'm confident that I've made the right choice.
First impressions of the watch are "It's big" but very light barely noticeable when you are wearing it. However it does stand proud of the wrist and can get caught up in shirt and jacket sleeves.
The display (negative - white on black) is easy to read especially in daylight, but can be a little tricky in low light conditions, dawn/dusk. The backlight does help, infact it makes it very clear to read; however to activate it you need to hold a button down for two seconds which does make it a tiny bit of a chore to do.
The Altimeter, Barometer and Compass are accurate enough and easy to use/set via the excellent and intuative interface. The Barometric trend display has proven particularly useful even in the short period that I've have the watch.
Whilst I can't comment on the battery life itself the fact that you can change the battery yourself with the minimum of fuss is a huge plus.
In summary the Vector lives up to it's reputation as a tough, rugged, useable piece of kit.

Suunto Vector Review

I agree with Jonathan that this a large robust watch. I would give it 5 stars rather than 4. It does everything I need when ski touring. I have used the altimeter quite extensively and have always found it to be accurate. For me the altimeter has been one of its most useful functions.
The watch is easy to set up and calibrate and fairly intuitve to use. The dial is clear and easy to read and the backlight useful in poor light. Battery life good and it has proved weather proof even or arctic tours.

Suunto Vector Review
Reviewer: Jonathan Seaton, Southam (28-7-2008)
As a soldier I require a watch that is robust, reliable and not so expensive that I cry like a baby if I was to lose it. I asked around at work and the Suunto Vector seemed to be popular so I decided to give it a try.
Firstly, this watch is big! It has a large, easy to read screen, which can actually be a problem when swinging a Bergan/Rucksack onto your back - it sometimes catches on the straps. I chose the white on black type which is supposed to be easier to read in low light (I have nothing to compare this to - so can't really comment).
Secondly, it is packed with gadgets. As well as telling the time, it has the usual alarms, stopwatches and countdown timers. What sold it for me though was the Altimeter, Barometer and Compass. I have to be honest, I haven't used the Altimeter since I calibrated it. The Barometer can be quite useful though if you spend time outdoors, and the compass has been very useful (and accurate - I tested it against a Silva and Prismatic compass).
Essentially, this is a first class watch, but if you don't require anything other than something to tell the time, save your money and buy a Casio. If however you are a fan of gadgets, watches and the outdoors you would do a lot worse than the Suunto Vector.
