Suunto Watch Strap Observer Rubber Review
Reviewer: Martin Beevers, Wimborne, (23-3-2012)
I bought this strap as the original on my observer snapped. I went for this rubber version, because of it's price of £18 instead of the replacement stainless option for £50 odd. It looks good and feels as though the rubber is supple enough to last. But only time will tell. That is why I cant give this strap top marks.

I've had an Observer for a few years now. Every year or so the strap cracks and I buy a new one. No drama. The replacement kit comes with spare pins and is easy to fit with a small jeweller's screwdriver to depress the pin.

Does what it says on the tin! Make sure you get the correct strap for your watch. Getting it on is a bit fiddly - I found a fork more useful than a knife in the end! They do break - I've gone through a few, usually the keeper goes first, then sooner or later the strap gets bent back on itself too far and goes, but it's the only strap you can use that will fit your watch!

Bought this to replace the original Suunto Observer Sr strap which broke when I was trying to get the battery case open! Less than half the price of a direct replacement, this rubber strap will probably last just as long as the original (about three years as I only wear the watch when I am in the mountains). Easy enough to fit and the watch looks like new. It has survived a week in the Lakes so far, no problem. Think it will be easier to clean than the Sr strap which tended to trap grime underneath the stainless steel sections. Great service from Face West with next day delivery exactly as advertised.

OK. The rubber strap is better than the original one, but after finding a jeweller capable of attaching it (not easy), the white inside insert has broken, so another replacement will be necessary. Such a pity to spoil a great watch by using cheap accessories.

My second strap from Facewest; Delivery all good. Cons: don't expect it to last too long, a year or so, the strap retaining loop is the first to go. However if your wrists are quite big then there isn't much strap that needs holding in. The strap does eventually crack, so far not at some crucial moment over a crevasse, volcano or toilet. Pros: it is cheapish, water/sweat durable, and washable when it reeks.

The plastic strap is the cheapest way in which to secure the Suunto Observer to your wrist. However, its durability doesn't match that of the time piece itself. Expect it to last no longer than 12-18 months in day to day use. The thread-through buckle is first to go as it perishes along the weld and drops off. The grey plastic that's inset on the back of the black elastomer appears to rot over time and comes away. If you leave the watch on for a long time beware that it will start to pong. I've only additional experience of the leather strap option by way of contrast and it is indeed a lot more comfortable in use. It's also nearly double the price.
