This article is designed to help you choose the correct model from the Suunto Outdoor Range. The Outdoor Range has features for the adventurous outdoor person and is designed for sports like Trekking, Skiing, Mountainerring, Hill walking and Ski Touring. The Suunto Training range is for fitness training analysis, and is more suited to biking , Running, Gym and cross sport athletes.

The models featured here are the key products in the Suunto Outdoor range. All except the Quest feature Altimeter, Barometer and Compass, know as the Suunto ABC. They improved safety by assisting in navigation and basic weather prediction.

The Suunto Core

The Suunto Core is the most popular model by a country mile. The Core has improved ABC functionality over it's predecessor the Vector. The software has been improved so the Altimeter helps adjust for changes in background air pressure. The Barometer has a unique storm warning alarm which can warn of rapid drops in air pressure allowing you time to take action. The Suunto Ambit

The completely wrist mounted GPS. The Ambit has a built in GPS and Heart Rate. The Ambit is the complete mountain and training tool, allowing complex navigation, route finding, track log recording and heart rate monitoring. The Suunto Vector

The Suunto Vector is a classic, one of the original Suunto models. It has all the ABC, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass features you would expect. The watch has a plastic face which is not as scratch resistant as the Cores or Xlanders, which have mineral glass faces. The Vector is also pretty thick on the wrist, more so than any of the newer models.

The Suunto XLander

The Suunto Xlander is a metal bodied and mineral glass face version of the Vector. Basically better looking and tougher. Features and function are identical.

The Suunto Quest

The Quest blends the boundary between Outdoor and Training. The feature set of the Quest makes it a training watch whilst the tough construction marks it out as an outdoor watch. However the Quest does not have an altimeter so can never truly be called an outdoor watch.
