The Suunto Core is the latest wrist top computer from Suunto and is now the flagship of their outdoor range. It has taken the ever popular Suunto Vector and added some key new features and improved many of the existing ones.
The suunto Core is the most advanced wrist-top computer available for outdoor enthusiasts. It is a great watch for general outdoor and mountain use. There is a women's specific version of the Suunto Core, the Suunto Lumi.
Advanced Features:
- The Altimeter has a new start from zero function and intelligent switching between Altimeter and Barometer modes. This function is probably one of the most important improvements for the regular user.
- Depth measurement for snorkelling and diving has been added to the altimeter. This allows depth measurement down to 10m.
- The Barometer has a new easy to use storm alarm to warn of fast degrading weather.
- The Compass has improved calibration and a warning message if the compass is not being held level.
- Setting your location in the watch now allows sunrise and sunset calculations.
- All the watches have mineral glass screens for scratch resistance.
- Technical Specifications and Feature List
Improvements from previous Suunto watches:
- Clearer and more detailed display. The Suunto Core uses a much higher resolution LCD Screen.
- Storm Warning. The Suunto Core can be set so the alarm will sound if the air pressure drops rapidly. This can warn users of poor weather approaching.
- Software that is capable of interpreting pressure chages as being due to weather changes rather than altitude changes. This makes for a more accurate Altimeter between calibrations.
- Depth Measurement. Can shown water depth to 10metres.
The Suunto Core is available in 10 body/face/strap combinations.Positive

Suunto Core All Black Review
Reviewer: Robert, Glasgow (26-1-2010)
There is a lot of good to be said about this watch. Most of the reviews here have covered these points so I wont bore you with a rehash; but here are some extra strong points.
The user changeable battery feature is a HUGE plus point. A friend has the Casio Pathfinder and he has spent £250+ on three battery changes. To stay in warranty with the Casio you need to send it back for service for a battery change/re-pressure.
Its hard to see from the pictures but the strap is not the usual pin lock type but in fact is a strong screw. Again this allows servicing in the field and is much sturdier.
The strap itself has a strange albeit pleasant feel about it and plenty of positions for getting the size correct. It also has a loop that actually clicks to hold the excess in place. A well thought out touch.
A number of reviews say the face is too large for a skinny wrist (in fact it almost put me off buying the watch). I would strongly disagree with this. You would have to be seriously slim for this to be too large a watch. To be honest I think those saying its too large are commenting on personal taste and not pure dimensions.
Now to the downsides. The negative white on black display is hard to read indoors. You soon get used to it and the back-light is excellent but don't be expecting the ease of reading of a normal positive display.
Sunset/sunrise setup requires you to set you location. Many cities are covered but its very likely yours isn't in the UK. For instance Glasgow is not included meaning the closest I can get is 6 minutes out using Aberdeen. Frustrating they should at least have including a means to correct or add lats and longs.
I am a huge watch fiend and buy one every few months. The Suunto really is a cut above the rest. I would buy another in a heart beat, you will not be disappointed.

Suunto Core All Black Review
Reviewer: Andrew James Kemp, Dyserth (20-1-2010)
I bought the Core All Black and I love it. It’s easy to set up and has to be the comfiest watch I own. The negative display is very very good and once I increased the contrast from 5 to 6 it looked even better.
The log function has to the coolest feature and I will be using this the most as I like going up and down the sides of mountains on my MTB.
If you need a great ABC watch that functions great and looks even better then get a Core you wont regret it. Great customer service I will shop here again !!

Suunto Core Review
Reviewer: Simon, Oxford (18-12-2009)
I bought the Alu Brown version of the Core because it was perhaps the most stylish of the range but all the features are the same as the others.
The Core is a good all-round wrist computer that incorporates features such as altimeter, barometer, thermometer, sunrise/sunset charts and many other useful tools.
The altimeter is perhaps the most useful feature, which I use when hillwalking as an aid to navigation. If calibrated properly in conjunction with an OS map, it is very effective.
The thermometer is also a handy little feature, although you have to strap it to a rucksack strap or otherwise to avoid interference from body warmth.
On the downside, the watch display can be hard to read in low-light situations, and the battery life is not great, although it's hardly a surprise, given the number and specialist types of features that operate in the watch.
Overall, a very useful and practical watch for use in the outdoors.

The altimeter is very accurate after getting bar pressure off of the BBC weather web site and it was even better used in conjuncton with the barometer.
The storm warning has saved me many a wet night, allowing me to get set up there and then rather than getting caught out in bad weather. Sunrise/sunset times are also very useful for leg planning.

Suunto Core Review
Reviewer: Robert FROST, DEAL (23-11-2009)
Bought the CORE (after returning a Casio Sea-Pathfinder to another mail order company named after a South American river which gradually lost functions over six months!) and I am so far impressed.
I have purchased it for use on a yacht so the barometric pressure is important. So far that has shown spot-on readings and the storm alarm is handy. Compass function also useful and a lot easier to read/use than the Casio.
Delivery was excellent.....next day in spite of the fact that I only paid for standard. I bought the All-Black and whilst the face is clear to read I suspect that those with a white background would be even better but would not look so cool!!
