The Snowpulse RAS Extrem 22L is an innovative new avalanche safety package featuring a unique removable avalanche safety system. Snowpulse are widely known for their Lifebag packs which feature one of the best air bag systems on the market. Unfortunately this level of protection comes with a weight penalty which means that that for on piste days you really needed a second pack. The RAS packs solve that problem by simplifying the avalanche safety bag and building it into a modular system which can be removed or even transferred between compatible bags.

The pack contains a compressed nitrogen canister which inflates a large, super-tough bag around your head and neck providing floatation, to prevent you being buried by debris, and impact protection. By making your effective volume much larger the RAS system ensures that you stay on the surface of the avalanche as large debris will tend to rise during fluid motion, this process is known as inverse segregation.

The RAS system is built into a zippered mesh bag which is clipped into the top of your RAS compatible pack. This is attached to a cylinder which is held in a specially designed zippered pocket. This means that the system is 100% removable leaving you with a great on piste or summer day sack.

The Extrem 22L is a fantastic pack for backcountry days with enough space for all your safety gear as well and some extra clothes and a small first aid kit. For touring and longer backcountry sessions then consider the 35L version (see related products below).

Avalanche Airbag systems should never be the first piece of avalanche safety gear you turn to - transceiver, shovel and probe are all far more important - however if you have all of those and still want an extra level of safety then it really is the ultimate avalanche protection.
