The Smartwool Training Glove is a comfortable, thin woollen glove designed for running on cool winter evenings and also makes for a good liner glove in really cold conditions.

It is thin and breathable enough that your hands won't end up overheating or feeling unpleasantly sweaty but thick enough to offer a good level of protection from the cold. The Training glove features silicone palm grippers.

100% Merino Smartwool

The wool used in this garment is 100% Merino, which is probably the best fabric to use in cold environments especially when worn next to the skin. Read more about the benefits of merino wool.

A little bit thicker and warmer than many liner gloves, these are great for cold winter weather, especially when strong winds require a firm grip on the map. It's worth emphasising that they're a synthetic blend (45% wool), so less warm than pure wool would be.

Reviewer: Gavin Miles, Ballater   (7-3-2011)

I bought these to replace a pair of worn out Smartwool liner gloves. The liners were great - warm and very light, but made holding on to maps, compasses (and any clothes you try to put on in a strong wind) hard work because the wool was so slippy on smooth surfaces. The training gloves are much better! They are still nice and stretchy, but the grippy print over the palms, fingers and thumbs makes them much more useful.

They are made with a mix of merino wool and synthetic fibres which has a smooth outer surface and looped inside, but are still very thin. I expect they'll be harder wearing than merino wool alone, but not as warm. That said, they've kept my hands comfy enough running in freezing and windy/wet weather so I'm delighted with them.
