The Smartwool Sport NTS Bottom is a high performance merino-wool baselayer pant. The pant features a gusseted crotch making these pants durable and comfortable even for climbers and telemark-skiers where freedom of movement is paramount. I bought these for a recent 8 day skiing trip as the Ortovox was out of stock in my size. These are a little bulkier than the Ortovox 185 but still an extremely comfortable item to wear. Under my salopettes they performed excellently.
There was never any hint of cold, nor being too hot, and the salopettes moved easily over them. It's not something I should admit to but I wore them the full 8 days. This was not the original intention as I had two other pairs of synthetic base layers available but you really would not have known they'd been used that much so I just kept going with them. Superb.
