The Rab Vapour rise Jacket is a fantastic light softshell jacket for walking and trekking in the hills and mountains. It has flexibility of a full length zip and offers protection from the elements with excellent breathability and very high wind resistance.

Vapour Rise essentially is the combination of Pertex Equilibrium and a micro fleece wicking inner. The very light fleece offers a reasonable level of insulation for a light garment but it's principle task is to wick moisture quickly from you to the outer fabric. The outer Equilibrium has a Durable Water Repellent finish allowing it to shed light rain and snow, and incorporates a denier gradient that enables rapid moisture dispersal and is highly breathable. This combination of the two fabrics is perfect for those that are working hard and demand a level of comfort.

I have a 100cm chest and the Medium fits nice. Enough room for a baselayer, not much more. The outer material sheds water very well.

But I find the collar tightening cord can be annoying sometimes as it rubs the neck if not hidden inside the collar. And the inner fleece layer moves separately from the outer layer, so putting the jacket on or taking it off can be tricky if you wear a wool/fleece baselayer.

Excellent jacket. This is the 3rd VR jacket I have owned and each have been as excellent as each other in terms of warmth, use etc. I prefer the permanent hood of other jackets in the VR range, and the roll away/concealed hood on this jacket makes it more of a jacket I would happily wear to the pub as well as on the hills. I would recommend this jacket to anyone considering the VR range as other jackets of similar spec just don't compare.
